Here’s a couple of recent releases from the incredible New York Review Comics (New York Review Comics) that we highly recommend checking out!

Like Swimmers by Dash Shaw (Dash Shaw), who previously did the incredible book Blurry, delivers this beautifully painted and exhilarating murder mystery.

The Children of Light is a dazzling and spellbinding, pulpy sci-fi comic by Belgian cartoonist Jean Pleyers in the 1980s. The new edition collects the two originally released volumes translated into English by Luke Burns and includes an interview with Pleyers by Tom Oldham from co-publisher Breakdown Press (Breakdown Press).

You can order either of these two comics by clicking the link in our bio.

Refuel your tummies with a tasty beverage and refill those pens with some inky cartridges, Drink and Draw is back in session!!! We can’t wait for another evening of drawing at the pub, hosted by ourselves and our friends over at Broken Frontier (Broken Frontier).

As always we’ll be joined by our resident cartoonist Mark Stafford (Mark Stafford) and this month we’ve invited two more artists Roman Muradov (Roman Muradov) and Daisy Crouch (daisy🌀)! Meet us at the shop on Friday 25th September 2026, from 6.30pm.

So, what is a Drink and Draw? Well, it’s in the name! We’ll host an evening of drawing with our guest comic artists, all while having a few drinks together, alcholic and non alcholic. Mark Stafford, our resident cartoonist, will be a regular face at the monthly event, being joined by two guest artists every time. We’ll meet at Gosh! for 6.30pm, where they’ll be a chance to mingle with the artists and check out their comics, before we head over to The Royal George for 7pm. Once everyone has grabbed a seat and a drink, we’ll start three short rounds of drawing, with each guest artist setting their own drawing theme. Gosh! will have the artists work on sale and even have some prizes for their favourite drawings! We will aim to wrap up by 9.30pm, but staying afterwards to continue the fun is more than welcome.

Broken Frontier and ourselves have been running the Drink & Draws since 2015 and we’ve been lucky enough to have had over 200 guest artists attend! It will be hosted by Broken Frontier’s wonderful Andy Oliver and Gosh’s Will Humberstone.

Look forward to seeing you all on Friday 28th August, from 6.30pm. There will be limited seating available at the Royal George and seating will be prioritised to those who were at the shop first.

We had the exceptional artist CROM (CROM) visit the shop recently to paint our windows! Updating our previous Birdking painting, this fresh design is absolutely stunning and a real visual treat! Well worth seeing this in person when you next visit the shop. CROM painted this to celebrate the upcoming fourth and final volume of Birdking published by Dark Horse (Dark Horse Comics) later this year! Illustrated by CROM and written by Daniel Freedman (DANIELFREEDMAN), this is one of our most highly anticipated books and we can’t wait to read the conclusion. You can preorder it now by clicking the link in our bio. But that’s not all! All copies of Volume 4 will come with a sticker sheet exclusive to us (swipe to check it out). In additional, CROM was kind enough to sign all three previous volumes of Birdking and our sketchbook we released with him earlier in the year, Bleed Ink, so check those out too.

Another new week, another amazing selection of new comics! DC have really treated us with new some Batman reprints. Pretty much every issue of the new series and Absolute Batman has been reprinted. So if you’re missing an issue, this is a great time to complete your collection. And Absolute Batman Volume 3 has also hit our shelves! Check out the next instalment of the incredibly popular Batman story from Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta.

In other Bat news, issue 2 of Batman & Robin Year One: Dynamic Duos from Mark Waid and Chris Samnee is out, a personal favourite of mine. And the next story of the Bad Seeds crossover event featured in the first Gotham Central issue is here.

Marvel are releasing the next in their Mangaverse line-up, Iron Knight and celebrates 50 years of some of their characters like Bullseye and Star-Lord in Gold ‘76.

Then we have some very exciting new independent series debuting that we can’t wait to take home to read!
New sci-fi horror, The Forever Home by Christian Ward and Sami Kivelä looks amazing!
Phenomenal Little Bird and Precious Metal creators are back with another, The Karman Blade by Darcy Van Poelgeest and Ian Bertram.
Another personal fav, Santos Sisters Fun Special Mini Series by gregandfake.
Murder mystery meets Friends in Six of Us by Tom King and Gabriel Hernández Walta.

Phew, what a week! Email us if you wanted anything added to your standing order!

We welcome back the exceptional Paul B. Rainey (Paul B Rainey) to the shop to celebrate his brand new Drawn & Quarterly (Drawn & Quarterly) book, Murder School! Paul will be signing here on Saturday 19th September 2026, from 1-2pm and we’ll have an exclusive signed bookplate of Murder School to accompany it.

We’ve been big fans of Paul for many years here, commending his wonderful fusion of the ordinary and the fantastic in titles like Why Don’t You Love Me and There’s No Time Like the Present. Here’s what the publisher say about his new book, Murder School:

A memoir of British middle school bullying and one precocious comic nerd’s fight to make it through while remaining as invisible as possible.

Paul B. Rainey takes a look back at his middle school education and the indignities suffered—a mix of stalled friendships, pitched battles with martinets, and exasperated pleading with intractable parents. Playground games take on outsized importance as Paul and his friends seek respite from a particularly abusive science teacher. Paul jockeys to hold his place in the complicated hierarchy of school bullying.

Rainey takes a classic “school daze” tale—both wistful and hilarious—and manages to turn it on its head with a couple of his now famous twists. Find out the truth behind The Murder School and the effect it’s had on Rainey well into middle-age.

You can meet Paul and pick up the new book on Saturday 19th September, from 1pm. You can grab a signed bookplate edition of Murder School from our website for mail-order or collection by clicking the link in our bio.
