First time on audio tape: Arne Domnerus, Bengt Hallberg, Egil Johansen, Georg Riedel, Lars Erstrand. It has been regarded as “The Best Jazz Recording of the Century!“ A pawnshop had operated on the site before the jazz club. Recorded in December 1976 on two NAGRA IV-S tape recorders, this audiophile recording is a sound audiophile experience. The main microphone was a pair of Neumann U47 in ORTF, on SM900 tapes from the original master tapes under licence.

The numbered package includes two audiophile SM900 tapes recorded at 15 ips in CCIR (also available in NAB), on two balanced metal reels manufactured in Germany by Feinwerktechnik allgäu and an elegant booklet.

He became famous for his beautiful sound, which gave his ballad playing a unique touch of tenderness, while his playing in faster tempos was virile and filled with growl. Webster is among that exclusive hierarchy of jazz artists to whose consistent excellence there can never be an over-abundance of recorded testimony. He is regarded as one of the three foremost swing-era tenor saxophonists – the two others being Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young.

ULTIMATE HIGH FIDELITY OPEN-REEL RECORDINGS: DELUXE TWO OPEN-REEL TAPE SET

This live album by Jaco Pastorius and the Word-of-Mouth Big Band, featuring harmonica virtuoso T***s Thielemans as special guest, was recorded in analog 24 tracks by the Record Plant mobile truck at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC on June 27, 1982 as part of George Wein's Kool Jazz Festival. The original 2 track master tapes were found recently and were used for this Deluxe edition. (Previous digital download versions were released from a digital remix of the 24 tracks). What we have here is the direct copy of the original pure analog 2 track mix.
