We asked when you start planning for Christmas…and the answers were very mixed.

Some of you are already making lists in September. Others don’t want to hear the C word until October—or preferably December 😂

But for those of you who like to plan ahead, we have something exciting coming: a brand-new Christmas kit.

We can’t reveal it just yet, but if you’d like to be among the first to see it, comment JUMBLE and we’ll send you the link to join our mailing list 🎄

We originally designed these as an alternative to the usual children’s party bag.

Then a teacher left a review saying she had given them to her class as end-of-year gifts—and planned to order them again next year.

We hadn’t really thought of them being used this way, but it makes complete sense.

Louise was a primary school teacher before we started Craft & Crumb, so she knows how difficult it can be to find an affordable gift for a whole class that feels thoughtful and won’t be thrown away five minutes later.

A small box to take home, with a baking activity ready for the holidays.

We called them party bags, but it seems you have other ideas. Have you used one of our kits for something we might not have thought of? We’d genuinely love to know.

5 after-school snack hacks for hungry little people 🍎🍌✨

The best bit? They can help make them too, so snack time doubles up as a fun little after-school activity!

1. Apple grins – apple slices, peanut butter and mini marshmallow “teeth”
2. Frozen banana pops – freeze banana pieces first, then dip them in melted chocolate and add sprinkles
3. Fruit wands – cut fruit into fun shapes and thread onto sticks with blueberries
4. Animal toast – spread with Nutella or peanut butter, then use fruit to make funny faces
5. Rice cake animals – decorate rice cakes with spreads and fruit to create different animals

Quick, easy and a lovely way to keep little hands busy after school. Which one would your children make first?

Save this for the next post-school snack emergency 💛

Please supervise younger children when using skewers and cut fruit appropriately for their age.

Save this for when you’re planning their next party.
Between us, we’re mums of five.
Our kids are a bit older now, but we still remember the parties really clearly. What worked, what didn’t, and what caused unnecessary stress 😅

So here are our simple tips for a 5-year-old’s birthday party:

🎈 Share with a friend → split the cost and the workload
📍 Book the venue first → they fill up faster than anything else
🥪 Use pre-made packed lunches → less clearing up, less faff, kids love having their own
(We used to do sandwich, fruit, snack + drink)
🎨 Stick to one main activity → too many things just feel rushed
⏱ Keep it short → 1.5–2 hours is plenty

A structure we found worked well:

⭐ Arrival / free play
⭐ One group activity
⭐ Food
⭐ Cake
⭐ Free play

Small things we often forgot:

🕯 Matches / lighter for candles
🎁 Don’t open presents at the party (pure chaos)
👜 Take a big bag and deal with gifts at home

One extra tip:
🍰 Wrap slices of cake in napkins and pop them into party bags. Less mess, and everyone gets a piece.

If you’ve got any party tips that worked well for you, pop them in the comments — always good to learn from each other 🤍

⭐️Cheat’s Garlic Dough Balls⭐️

You’ll need

* 4 slices soft white bread
* Small bowl of milk
* 30g butter, melted
* 1 garlic clove, crushed or ½ tsp garlic granules
* Pinch of salt
* Chopped parsley, optional
* Parmesan, optional

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C / 180°C fan and line a baking tray.
2. Cut the crusts off each slice of bread.
3. Roll each slice into a tight ball, squeezing it firmly between your hands so it holds its shape.
4. Quickly dip each ball in milk — just enough to coat it. Don’t leave it to soak.
5. Reshape the balls if needed, then place on the baking tray.
6. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until golden and slightly crisp on the outside.
7. Meanwhile, mix the melted butter, garlic and a pinch of salt together (add parsley and Parmesan if you fancy)
8. Remove the balls from the oven and serve with the garlic dip
