Thinking about new bathroom flooring? Not every flooring type is suited to a wet room.

Carpet's one to avoid in bathrooms. It soaks up moisture from wet feet, splashes and general humidity, which makes it tricky to keep clean and fresh.

Standard laminate needs a bit more thought too. If water gets into the joints it can cause swelling and damage, so it's always worth checking a product is specifically rated for bathroom use before you commit.

Solid hardwood is best left for other rooms. It takes on moisture quickly, which leads to warping, cupping and rot over time – not ideal for a bathroom's damp conditions.

Vinyl and the right LVT tend to be the safer bet. They're easy to keep clean and come in plenty of styles, so you're not short on options.

As the weather cools, we always see more people coming into the shop to look at carpet. It is easy to understand why. A comfortable carpet underfoot feels especially inviting as we head into autumn.

We have a huge selection of carpets in different colours, textures and styles. Browsing online is a useful place to start, but choosing carpet is very different when you see and feel it in person. Colours often look different on a screen and the texture and pile need to feel right for your space.

Before visiting, take a few photos of the room, your current flooring, curtains, furniture and anything else you want to match. This gives us a much better idea of your existing colours and style.

Allow yourself a good 30 to 40 minutes in the shop. Look through the samples, feel the different options and compare colours properly. You might arrive with one carpet in mind and leave preferring something completely different.

🍂 As the seasons turn, it's worth giving a bit of thought to how your flooring copes with the change. Wetter weather brings more moisture, mud, leaves and grit into the home, and a few small adjustments now can make a real difference to how your floors hold up over the coming months.

Simple ways to protect your flooring this autumn:

🔹 Use a doormat at each entrance to catch dirt and moisture before it spreads further into the house
🔹 Wipe up wet footprints as they happen
🔹 Vacuum carpets regularly
🔹 Sweep LVT, vinyl and laminate so grit doesn't get the chance to work its way in and cause unnecessary wear
🔹 Add furniture pads under chairs and tables to cut down on scuffs from everyday movement
