The Hive is an independent craft and gift shop, stocking quality wool yarns, locally made gifts, vintage and antique collectable, and plant sales in the garden.

Yarnstravaganza 2026 starts at the weekend. Unfortunately I won't be open Saturday, but will have a variety of things happening from Tuesday onwards, plus goodie bags to give away

Tuesday 1.30pm-4.00pm Drop in fix your problems session. No need to book. Bring along anything Knitting or Crochet that you are having a problem with...I'll try and help sort it...but no promises
Free, but a charge for tea or coffee if you want one

Wednesday 2.00pm- 4.00pm . Cast ons/ cast offs. Learn new methods to cast on and cast off, and when to use them. Contact me if interested , £5.00, including tea or coffee

Thursday 1.30pm- 4.00pm. Same as Tuesday

Friday 1.30pm- 4.00pm Knitting in the round. If you have avoided Knitting in the round, come along and have a go. Learn about circular needles, and cast on a Chunky cowl £ 6.00 including tea or coffee PLUS cost of yarn and needles if you want to make a Cowl

Saturday 1.30pm Introduction to Tunisian Crochet

Introduction to basic Tunisian Crochet, and how to make a scrappy blanket

Cost £10.0. Including refreshments ( tea, coffee, cake)
You will need basic Crochet skills. Scraps of 4ply or DK weight yarns. A straight handled ( i.e. one without any shaping on the handle) or Tunisian Crochet hook in 4mm for 4ply yarn, or 5mm for DK.

I've been tidying my pattern booklets and book, ready for the arrival of some gorgeous new ones, over the next couple of weeks

A great day at Kernow Yaff , at The RoyalCornwallshowground ( couldn't get a good picture of the stand as the light was behind it)

Just 1 week until Kernow Yaff , yarn and Fibre Festival at The Royal Cornwall showground.
We will be there with a wide range of needles, hooks and notions, including Knitpro, Addi and Chiagoo
As I can only bring 1 or 2 of everything, if there is anything you want, please msg me, and i will reserve for you
Knitpro order going in tomorrow for a few top ups

Many of you, especially locals will know that my wonderful husband Geoff passed away last week. ( the village grapevine works very well)
The best I can say is, I'm up, and not crying
The shop will be open usual hours whenever possible, as I need to keep busy, but will close earlier than usual sone days, so i can be home with our daughter when she gets back from school, plus putting on a smile and being sociable is exhausting . Please accept that I don't want to talk about it at present
Please bare with me for the time being, if the shop is open..good, if not sorry for the inconvenience

There will be lots of new yarns coming in over the next few weeks, so clearing out a few old lines. The bargin bin/ odds and ends is over flowing. Malabrigo Washted, Llang Jowell sock yarns, Rico Essential cotton, and just the last few of John Arbon Yarnadelic sports weight, and the West Yorkshire Spinners DK colourlab sockyarn are among the bargains to be had.
