Throwback to Summer 2022…

This was one of our favourite lighting projects, transforming a church in Notting Hill with a completely new lighting system.

The existing installation had reached the end of its life, with ageing domestic LED fittings and a wall full of individual switches making the system difficult to use and maintain.

We stripped everything out and started again, installing 28 tracks of DALI-controlled white lighting, DMX-controlled colour lighting to illuminate the walls, arches and ceiling, along with wireless battery uplighters to give the church even more flexibility for different events.

Everything was brought together under a single, easy-to-use control system, allowing the church to recall lighting scenes at the touch of a button while still giving them complete control when they need it.

The transformation was huge. Not only is the space brighter and far more energy efficient, but it’s now flexible enough to suit everything from regular services through to concerts, community events and special occasions.

Happy Birthday Dan!

Dan is one of our install team and has now been with us for several years. To be honest, we can't quite remember when he officially started... he sort of appeared on work experience one day and never really left!

Over the years he's grown into a key member of the team, working on everything from smaller installations right through to some of our largest and most technically demanding projects. He's always keen to learn, get stuck in, and take on whatever the next job throws at him.

Outside of work, you'll usually find Dan enjoying the outdoors, heading off camping, or running up a mountain for fun...

🎉 Happy Birthday to the man who started it all – ! 🎉

From starting Noiseboys back in 2009 to where we are today, Phill has been at the heart of everything we do.

These days you're more likely to find Phill in meetings, on the phone, or planning the next project than on site. He knows what a drill is... we just don't trust him with one. A Sharpie, on the other hand, is usually considered safe.

When he's not doing that, there's a fair chance he's sniffing out the office snacks or reminding everyone how unbearably hot the UK is... despite it somehow always being like this on his birthday.

Happy Birthday Phill! Thanks for everything you do, and we hope you have a great day.

Throwback to two years ago…

Our team were over in Oxford helping transform a room into a dedicated space for podcasts and lecture recording.

The first step was improving the acoustics, so we installed a number of acoustic panels to reduce reflections and create a much better sounding environment for speech recording.

Having installed plenty of GIK panels over the years, this was our first time using the hexagonal range. After a bit of measuring, tweaking, and making sure the spacing was just right, we were really pleased with how they finished off the room.

A relatively simple installation, but one that made a big difference to both the look of the space and the quality of the recordings.

Throwback to four years ago…

Our team were down in London carrying out an audio upgrade at the beautiful St Cuthbert’s Church.

The existing Yamaha speakers were replaced with a full Martin Audio CDD system, delivering a significant improvement in both clarity and coverage throughout the church.

On the control side, we swapped out the analogue mixing desk for a Yamaha TF Rack, neatly tucked away out of sight and controlled wirelessly via an iPad over a dedicated Wi-Fi network we installed.

Alongside this, we added new wired and wireless microphones, wired in-ear monitors, and carried out our first installation of Apex CloudPower amplifiers, giving the system modern DSP and remote management capabilities.

A great project that transformed the way the church sounded while making the system much simpler to operate day to day.

When it comes to outdoor audio, not all speakers are created equal. 🌦️🔊

Last week, Josh and Matt had the opportunity to visit the FBT factory in Italy. Amongst the many products we saw being assembled and individually tested was the FBT Shadow range and, of course, we spent plenty of time listening to the speakers in action too. It’s always great to see the craftsmanship and quality control behind products you trust.

Outdoor loudspeakers are one of the hardest products to get right. They need to cope with the weather, deliver exceptional sound quality, provide consistent coverage and keep performing reliably year after year. In our opinion, the FBT Shadow range does this better than anything else we’ve heard.

Despite the name, outdoor loudspeakers aren’t just for outdoor use. Some of the harshest environments for audio systems are actually indoors. Moisture, condensation, and temperature changes can all shorten the life of conventional loudspeakers, even when they’re installed inside a building.

That’s why we’ve specified the FBT Shadow range for everything from school sports pitches and playgrounds to indoor sports halls, a zoo, an ice rink and even the LCFC conditioning chamber. Not all of these projects were outdoors, but they all demanded loudspeakers that could withstand challenging environmental conditions without compromising on sound quality or long-term reliability.

After seeing them being built, individually tested and hearing the whole range again, we’re even more confident in recommending the Shadow series for projects where performance and durability are equally important.

This week Josh & Matt spent a couple of days out in Italy visiting the FBT factory. 🇮🇹

It had been eight years since Josh’s last visit and Matt’s first time seeing the factory, and a lot has changed in that time. There has clearly been plenty of investment in new CNC machinery and automated manufacturing, making production more accurate and efficient. It was great for Josh to see how the factory has evolved over the years, while Matt got to experience the whole process for the first time.

One thing that hasn’t changed, though, is the people behind it. It was interesting to see the mix of modern manufacturing alongside the care that still goes into assembling and finishing the products by hand. We also got to see that every loudspeaker is individually acoustically measured, tested and inspected before it leaves the factory, something that was great to see first-hand.

It was also great to spend time with the teams from FBT Italy and FBT UK, alongside several other UK integrators, sharing ideas, experiences, and talking all things audio.

Of course, there was also time to listen to plenty of loudspeakers, enjoy some fantastic Italian food, and make the most of the sunshine while we were there.

A huge thank you to FBT UK and FBT Italy for inviting us over and looking after us so well. We came away with a better understanding of the products, some great new connections, and plenty of ideas that we’ll be bringing into future projects.

Throwback to Gateshead!

Two years ago, the team headed up north to upgrade a space with some new AV equipment.

We installed a new CQ18T compact mixer, upgraded the audio system with speakers and amplification, and replaced the existing projector with a new laser model — safely protected in a cage to keep it out of harm’s way from any stray footballs.

There was also plenty of cable to run, with the team spending their fair share of time up in the air making sure everything was neat, tidy, and hidden from view.

Once complete, the system was handed over and put straight into use by the customer.

Some of our team are back in Coventry this week, making more progress on a background music system we started a few weeks ago.

With the most of the cabling now in place, and some still going in, we’ve started on installing and connecting the speakers throughout the building. Over the coming days we’ll also be getting the rack and amplifiers installed as the system starts to come together.

There’s still plenty to do, not just from us but from several other trades working on the project, but it’s great to see everything starting to take shape.

This week some of our team have spent a couple of days down in Stroud attending training with .

We covered everything from the science behind sound and loudspeakers through to system design and prediction software, helping us better understand how systems behave and how to get the best results from them.

Some of the topics were familiar territory, while others gave us a chance to look at things from a different perspective and pick up some new techniques. It's always valuable to spend time with others in the industry, sharing knowledge, learning from different approaches, and coming away with ideas that help us refine the way we work.

A massive thank you to the team at d&b for looking after us so we'll and sharing their expertise over the last couple of days.
