Harbour and Heather is my creative outlet - born from quiet moments and late nights as a mum of 2 young children often creating while nursing or to find calm in the chaos. Inspired by life in the Scottish Highlands, where rugged coastlines meet wild heather hills, my work spans from seaglass crafts to hand drawn sketches and digital art. Each piece carries a little of the beauty, and love I find in family life here. What began as a way to nurture creativity has become something more, a growing dream to share my art and the connection I find in the highlands with others. So thank you for being here and supporting this little dream, it means more than words can say.

A pinch me moment to see my art installed in Dunnet Forest!

A big thank you to Sìdh C Art and the team at Dunnet Community Forest for making this happen.

Working with Caitlin to communicate her story through art was a privilege and now that art is out on permanent display! I hope that, amongst the trees and wildflowers, the hidden messages within the artwork will speak to the people who visit. 🐝🦋🌿

Looking for something to do tomorrow? Why not check out this fabulous event in Latheron Village Hall for the flow country world heritage sites 2nd anniversary!

With stalls from local crafters (including me 😃) catering from the fabulous Forse Of Nature, live performances, music and film it's set to be a fabulous afternoon of entertainment, arts and informative discussion. 🌼🌸

I'm delighted to see the Strength in Bloom cushions finding their new home with Mikeysline aboard their Hive on the Road 2.

Hive on the Road is a brilliant initiative, taking mental health support directly into communities across the Highlands, creating welcoming spaces where people can connect, talk and access support when they need it most.

A huge thank you to Mikeysline for giving these cushions such a special home. I hope everyone who sits among them feels a little of the hope, resilience and strength illustrated into the design. 💛🌿🐝

A great big thank you to the organisers and volunteers at the latheron show yesterday who made such a fun day possible. Especially those in the tractors helping cars through the mud and the lovely volunteer at the gates who helped me pull/push my stock laden trolley through the thickest tracks. 🙏

I had a great time in the craft tent and left with my own stock alot lighter and a wee bag of goodies, there was such a lovely variety of crafts and produce in the tent this year!

A couple of my lovely stockists asked about protective packaging for my lens cloths, so they are now being packaged in a biodegradable sleeve. What do you think? I'll have this batch with me at the latheron show this weekend 😃

I've booked my first show!! 😃

I'm keeping it local with a stall at the Latheron show, which is a fab family day out. I love visiting with the kids, so much that we close the B&B each year so we can attend without rushing back for check in 🤣

This year il be found in the crafters tent and I have no idea what to expect, I'm all stocked up though and excited to get out and chat to lots of visitors, customers and other fabulous stallholders. If your attending do stop and say Hi!

Floriography Friday🌼

It's a little late in the day, but better late than not at all right? I'd say I got caught up in B&B duties and the kids ... which I definitely did, but I also hesitated as the artwork for this delicate little flower is a work in progress.

I love these little flashes of blue with tints of pink and purple. Forget-me-nots symbolise love, loyalty, and remembering someone when you're apart. Their name comes from a 15th-century legend about a Knight and his lady. It's said the Knight was picking blue flowers by the river when weighed down by his heavy armour he fell in and just before he was swept away he threw the bouquet to his love and cried "forget-me-not".

Rich in folklore these tiny wee flowers became iconic in victorian floriography as romantic tokens of everlasting love.

They are also said to protect against witches and were used by Henry IV for luck and protection during his exhile in 1398.

Whilst the flower is rich in symbolism, it has also been used in traditional herbal medicine, where it was believed to help respiratory conditions and promote emotional healing.

They are still regularly used as a motif today in gifts and jewelery to celebrate long-lasting friendships, shared memories and enduring love. A perfect wee gift for expressing those emotions that can be hard to put into words.

🌿🦋 Strength in Bloom 🦋🌿

As the Carnival of Plants enters its final weekend at Haven in Thurso, I wanted to reshare the Strength in Bloom pieces.

This artwork brings together plants and insects chosen to represent resilience, transformation, hope, and recovery. Every flower, bee, and butterfly tells part of a story, woven together into a celebration of strength and growth through life's challenges.

It's been a privilege to create and share this pattern and prints, and I'm grateful to everyone who has taken the time to stop, look, and connect with its message.

Floriography Friday! 🌱

This week, I chose Yarrow, a native British wildflower with historical connection to this weekends summer solstice.

Yarrow is a symbol of healing, protection, and everlasting love. ❤️ A native UK wildflower it used to be nicknamed soldiers' woundwort as it can be used to help stop bleeding from wounds and scrapes! In fact, its Latin name Achillea comes from the Greek hero Achilles, who is said to have used it to treat his soldiers' battle wounds.

In gaelic folklore, women recited incantations whilst picking Yarrow for protection. It was then hung over a child's cradle or scattered around houses to ward off spirits, witches, and fairies!

A versatile plant its uses are many from applying it in a salve to irratated skin to drinking it in tea to aid digestion and reduce cramps. ☕️

Apparently, it reaches its peak potency during the summer solstice, making this weekend the best time to pick some if you fancy giving one of it’s many uses a try. 🌞
