🍅 From plant to plate… feeding the writer’s brain! ✍️📖

There’s something ridiculously satisfying about growing something from a tiny seed, nurturing it, waiting (not always patiently 😬), and finally getting to enjoy the result.

Actually… that sounds rather familiar. 🤔

Writing a book isn’t all that different.

You start with the tiniest seed of an idea. You feed it, nurture it, watch it grow, occasionally wonder what on earth you’re doing, prune bits that aren’t working, and give it a LOT of time and attention.

Then you wait.

And wait.

And tweak it some more. 😂

Hopefully, eventually, you end up with something you’re really rather proud of. ❤️

Today, though, I’m taking the quicker win — homegrown tomatoes, straight from the plant to my plate. 🍅🌿

I swear, every time I think I’m almost there, I somehow find a whole new level of editing to do. 😂

I’ve genuinely lost count of how many times I’ve read this book from beginning to end and thought, “Yep… nearly finished!”

Then on Monday, I went back to the beginning for what was SUPPOSED to be a continuity edit.

Just a continuity edit.

Nothing dramatic.

And somehow I’ve now almost completely rewritten the first three chapters. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

And, knowing me, the rest will probably follow suit.

At this rate, by the time I’m finished, it’s going to be a completely different story!

There are moments when I genuinely wish I’d never started writing it… and yet it’s also pretty much the only thing I think about. 😂

How messed up is that?!

Sometimes I have to remind myself that I’m a grown woman sitting here making up imaginary people, imaginary conversations, imaginary places and imaginary problems…

…and then getting VERY stressed when my imaginary people don’t behave properly. 😂

Basically, I’m a child playing make-believe, except now there are plot holes, continuity issues and an alarming amount of coffee involved.

Please tell me this is normal?! 😂📖☕️

Okay… how did THAT happen so quickly?! 🤣

It was only last night I was celebrating 400 of you, and suddenly there are 500 people following this slightly chaotic journey towards publishing my first book. 📖🔮

400 followers on Instagram!!! 💜✨

It might only be a number to some, but to me it means 400 people have chosen to come along on this little journey with me — and I appreciate every single one of you.

Behind this page, it’s just me. One woman writing a book while working a full-time job, trying to fit this dream into all the little spaces in between. Newly married, navigating everyday life and somehow attempting to become an author at the same time. 🤣📚

I’m writing it alone. Editing it alone. Learning the terrifying world of self-publishing alone. Trying to figure out the best way to go about marketing and social media as I go . And some days? It’s tough.

But then there are moments like this. 💜

Every follow, like, comment and message reminds me that, although I might be sitting at my computer doing all of this by myself, there are people out there waiting to see what I’m creating.

And that means more than you probably realise.

I cannot wait to finally share my first book with you. I’m still gathering the courage to press that terrifying publish button… but I also refuse to rush it.

I’ll publish when I’m brave enough.

And, more importantly, when the book is ready. 📖✨

Until then… don’t worry.

It’s brewing. 🔮🫖✨

Meet Dave the Peacock 🦚

My husband and I always make stories up around the animals and wildlife we come across on our travels and they’re always called Dave!

This time, he genuinely was called Dave! So the barman told us 🤣

WOW! 🤯

When I started this developmental edit, I genuinely had no idea just how much the story was going to grow.

After working through all of my proofreader feedback, adding more depth, filling in the gaps and giving the story the space it clearly needed, my 239-page novella has somehow turned into a 647-page full-blown novel! 📖✨

And the funniest part?

I’m STILL not finished! 😂

Apparently, this story had a lot more to say than I realised.

Gonna need a bigger book… ☕️😂

Does anyone ever get to the point in developmental editing where you’re just tired?

Like… I genuinely cannot be arsed with this anymore. 😂

You’ve read the same chapter approximately 47 times. You’ve moved the same scene around six times. You’ve questioned the plot, the characters, the pacing, your life choices… and then eventually your brain just goes:

“You know what? Let’s just park this.” 😂

And honestly? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need to do.

Walk away. Make a brew. Read something completely unrelated. Stare into the middle distance for a bit. 😂

Because sometimes you’re not stuck.

You’re just bloody knackered.

Anyone else? Please tell me I’m not the only one. 👀
