🇺🇸 US BASE TARGETED BY 🇮🇷 FPV DRONE IN IRAQ

Iraq’s Iranian-backed militia Kataib Hezbollah has released drone footage claiming to show an attack on Victory Base near Baghdad International Airport.

According to initial reporting, the strike may mark the first successful use of an FPV-style attack drone to pe*****te U.S. base defences in Iraq.

FPV drones are small, fast and extremely difficult to detect using traditional radar systems. Their low altitude flight profile and manoeuvrability allow them to slip through defensive gaps that larger drones or missiles might trigger.

If verified, the footage suggests militant groups are rapidly adopting battlefield tactics seen in the Ukraine war, where low-cost FPV drones have become a major threat to military infrastructure.

The incident highlights a growing challenge for Western forces: defending large installations against cheap, highly agile drone attacks that can be launched from short distances.

Further confirmation from U.S. military officials is expected as the situation develops.

🇫🇷 FRANCE AND 🇮🇹 ITALY IN TALKS WITH 🇮🇷 IRAN OVER HORMUZ SHIPPING

France and Italy have reportedly held discussions with Iran to secure safe passage for their commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Financial Times.

The talks come amid rising regional tensions and growing concerns about potential disruption to one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes.

The Strait of Hormuz handles a significant share of global energy shipments, making stability in the corridor a priority for governments and shipping operators alike.

Any diplomatic engagement aimed at maintaining safe navigation highlights the increasing pressure on international shipping as tensions in the region continue to escalate.

🚨 ANALYSIS: WHY SINKING IRAN’S FLEET DOESN’T REOPEN THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ

The strategic challenge in the Strait of Hormuz has never been Iran’s conventional surface fleet.

Iran’s doctrine relies heavily on asymmetric maritime warfare, combining unmanned systems, missile platforms and fast attack craft designed specifically for operations in confined waters.

One example frequently cited is the Azhdar unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV). Platforms of this type are designed for extended patrol missions, capable of travelling hundreds of kilometres while remaining difficult to detect using conventional surveillance systems.

When integrated with other assets, the threat picture becomes far more complex.

Iran’s layered approach includes:

• Loitering UAV swarms
• Anti-ship missile batteries along the coast
• Fast attack boats operating in saturation tactics
• Unmanned surface vessels
• Unmanned underwater vehicles

Together these systems form a distributed denial network across the narrow shipping corridor.

The Strait of Hormuz is only 33 km wide at its narrowest point, with shipping lanes roughly 3 km wide in each direction. This geography heavily favours defensive asymmetric tactics.

Even if surface vessels are destroyed, the underlying threat environment remains.

In practice, reopening the strait during active hostilities would require naval forces to operate inside a multi-domain threat envelope including drones, missiles and underwater systems.

The operational challenge therefore is not simply defeating a fleet.

It is neutralising an entire layered denial strategy designed specifically for confined maritime chokepoints.

🚨 RUSSIAN NAVIGATION CHIP FOUND IN IRANIAN DRONE STRIKE

Ukraine’s air defence teams first identified an unfamiliar Russian navigation chip inside downed drones in December 2025.

Three months later, the same component has reportedly been found in the wreckage of an Iranian drone that struck a British military base in Cyprus.

The chip, known as Kometa-B is designed to resist electronic warfare and GPS jamming, the same defensive measures Ukraine uses nightly to disrupt Russian Shahed drone attacks over its cities.

According to defence reporting, this suggests that Russia may now be transferring hardened navigation technology to Iran, potentially increasing the resilience of Iranian loitering munitions against Western jamming systems.

Britain’s defence leadership has also warned that Russian intelligence may be assisting Iran with targeting data, including GPS coordinates of U.S. naval assets operating in the region.

Russia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom did not directly deny the allegation, stating only that Russia is “supportive of Iran.”

If confirmed, this development would mark a deeper level of military technology cooperation between Moscow and Tehran, with implications for drone warfare across multiple theatres.
