💔 And just like that... our shelves are bare and our shutter is closed 🛍️

Saturday was our last day of trading before the official closure of the Nicholson Centre tomorrow.
To every single customer who came and supported our little cooperative — THANK YOU xx
You are the reason we did this.

We very much hope this isn’t goodbye and hope to see you all again soon! We are working hard behind the scenes to find a wonderful new home, so we can continue doing what we love and supporting our amazing customers with a unique shopping experience.

Maidenhead deserves better. This town still has a beating heart and a wonderful community — and it deserves a vibrant, thriving town centre, not to watch its beloved shops disappear to make way for yet more flats 💔

Keep following us for updates and we hope to have some good news to share soon 💛

Wishing each and every one of you all the love, luck, happiness, and wealth in this challenging world x.

ONE WEEK TO GO BEFORE WE CLOSE!

We will be extremely sad to be shutting shop at 5pm on Saturday 6th June.

Our gift shop has been home to 11 incredible small, local businesses for over 5 years — each one run by passionate, dedicated people who pour their hearts into everything they make and sell. Every purchase you’ve made hasn't just supported us — it's supported 11 families, 11 dreams, and 11 little pieces of this community.

From the bottom of our collective hearts, thank you. For choosing local. For choosing us.

We have not given up on finding a new home yet! We are searching hard and remain hopeful — but we would be doing you disservice if we didn't speak plainly about the challenge we face. The reality of the high street is a sobering one for an independent cooperative like ours. Rents and rising business rates are dramatically higher than what we have been able to sustain within the shopping centre, and unlike the structured terms we were used to, negotiating with independent landlords brings an entirely different set of pressures. We have yet to find anything that comes close to offering the same balance of affordability, footfall, and community presence — and without that, we cannot in good conscience commit to a location that would put our 11 businesses at risk.
We have been part of the Nicholson Centre and, like so many other independent businesses, we have found ourselves without meaningful support during this transition — private landlords control the units on the high street, and thus the local council has been unable to assist us in finding a way forward.

The impending restructure of Maidenhead town is heartbreaking, and we are particularly conscious of what the wider loss of the Nicholson Shopping Centre will mean for our residents. With the redevelopment expected to take four to five years to complete, and M&S set to leave next summer, the town centre will face a sustained period of reduced footfall that will be felt by everyone. Our thoughts are especially with the elderly members of our community, who have always found their way to us — not only to shop, but to stop, to chat, and to feel welcomed. That matters more than we can say, and it is not something that cannot easily be replaced.

We also cannot ignore the broader picture. Nationwide housing targets are driving an unprecedented wave of residential development, and across the country high streets like ours are losing the independent, community-rooted businesses that give them their character — replaced by yet more flats. It is a trend that saddens us deeply.

To each and every one of you who has walked through our door, bought a gift, recommended us to a friend, or simply stopped for a chat — thank you. You are the reason we kept going as long as we did, and you are the reason we will continue to do our best to appear again in the future!

We will be open until 5pm on Saturday 6th June and would love to see as many familiar faces as possible before we say goodbye for now. Many more items have been added to our sale stock and cakes will be available to nibble while stocks last!

With gratitude and love from the ladies of ORA x

As many of you know, Ora in Maidenhead is closing its doors in just ten days. This will be my final retail location, so if you’ve been eyeing a specific piece or want to see my new designs in person, now is the time!

After that, you can find me right here on Facebook and Instagram for all my event updates.

💔 After many happy years in Maidenhead town, the Nicholson Shopping Centre will be officially closing for demolition soon, meaning our LAST DAY OF TRADING will be SATURDAY 6TH JUNE.

💛 Before anything else, we want to say a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has reached out to express your sadness at our closing, and especially to those who have said you wish we could find a new home elsewhere in town. Your messages, comments and kind words mean the absolute world to us 🙏

We are actively exploring options to move to the high street but it is not easy. High street rents are significantly higher and business rates have soared, so finding a financially viable solution is a big challenge. We want you to know that we are not giving up — and even if we disappear briefly, we will do our best to pop up somewhere very soon!

When ORA shuts down it is not just one more shop disappearing but 11 small businesses facing closure. That's 11 livelihoods and 11 individuals who love serving this community with a unique shopping experience.

This matters more than ever, given so many other shops are closing and Maidenhead faces a tough few years ahead with very limited options for visitors.

🏡 That’s why we are reaching out to you - do you know of any suitable premises we could rent? We are open to all options such as a vacant unit or a shared space within an existing business like a garden centre, farm shop, or similar. If you have a lead or know someone who might, please get in touch or drop a comment below. Every suggestion is very gratefully received!

💬 If you would like us to stay in the town, please also leave a comment below — it means more than you know, and it helps us show landlords and decision-makers that there is real community support for what we do, as well as giving us the motivation to keep trying!

🛍️ For the time being we have created a large SALE section at the back of the shop, so please do pop in and support us in the time we have left. Every visit and every purchase genuinely helps.

We are doing everything we can to find a way forward. Thank you for your support 🙏
