South East Open Studios starts this Friday! Join us here at Creative Maidstone and discover local artists Jane Burdett, Steven Wallis, Oliver Bryant and Ayse Akay.

South East Open Studios gives you the opportunity to step inside working studios, meet the artists behind the creations, and explore exhibitions featuring everything from painting and sculpture to ceramics and jewellery.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast or simply looking for inspiration, it’s a fantastic opportunity to experience local creativity and gain insight into the artistic process.

Opening on Monday 1 June discover Axis of Becoming. A solo exhibition by Ayse Akay features a new body of abstract works exploring transformation - the internal processes that shape who we are but often remain unseen. The works focus on emotional and psychological states, translating them into abstract forms through colour, texture, and movement.

Open Monday to Saturday 9am till 5pm.

Meet artist Eveline who sells her beautiful artwork and handmade jewellery in our Artisan Shop

Eveline has been passionate about creativity from a young age, with painting becoming a key part of her life during secondary school. Inspired by her mother’s love for art, culture, and creativity, Eveline was encouraged throughout her childhood to explore artistic expression despite growing up with limited resources, often learning through books borrowed from the library.

In early 2022, a close friend inspired her to begin jewellery making, leading her to take a gemstone jewellery class in Hong Kong. Drawing from her family’s business and knowledge of Hong Kong gemstones, she developed a deeper appreciation for handcrafted jewellery and natural stones. After moving to the UK in 2022, Eveline continues to grow her artistic journey, combining her love of painting and jewellery design.

Cabinet of Voices is a 6 week creative journey inspired by Maidstone’s history. Join artist Giles Whitehead and explore drawing, writing, illustration and bookbinding across Creative Maidstone and Maidstone Museum, and help create a collaborative artists’ book, celebrated at LitFest.
