STEEL SHOT? CHOOSE YOUR CHOKE CAREFULLY. ⚠️

Getting ready for steel shot? Check your gun, cartridge and choke first.
At Teague Precision Chokes, our general recommendation is:

🔹 Standard steel shot: no more than ½ choke
🔹 High-performance steel shot: no more than ¼ choke

As a general rule, the larger the steel shot load, the more open the choke should be.
Your sh***un should also be appropriately proofed for steel shot.

⚠️ These are general recommendations. Always check your sh***un manufacturer’s guidance and the cartridge manufacturer’s recommendations before shooting steel shot.

WHAT IS THE TEAGUE THIN WALL SYSTEM?

The Teague Precision Chokes Thin Wall System is a bespoke conversion that transforms a suitable fixed-choke gun into a multi-choke, giving you the flexibility of interchangeable chokes while preserving the character of the original gun.

Using precision-engineered, thin-walled choke tubes, each system is individually fitted to suit the gun and its barrel dimensions.

Know your choke at a glance.

With our Teague Precision Chokes, constriction markings can be laser-marked directly onto the end of the choke, making identification quick and easy — even when the choke is fitted in the barrel.

Should you change your chokes at every stand/station?

Not necessarily!

When shooting clays, your choke choice should match the target distance and presentation, rather than simply changing at every stand.

🔹 Closer targets → more open choke can give you a wider pattern and a little more forgiveness.

🔹 Longer targets → tighter choke can help keep more pellets on the target at distance.

🔹 Medium-range targets → a more open or moderate choke is often perfectly adequate.

The key is to understand your gun, your cartridge, and the target. A good-quality pattern at the expected range matters more than constantly swapping chokes.

💡 Tip: If you're unsure, pattern your gun at different distances before heading onto the course. You may find your current setup handles a much wider range of targets than you expected.
