This talk revolves around a series of handmade pockets created for an exhibition held in March 2025 with Elmslie Embroiderers and the stories of Worcestshire women.
A few words from the speaker:
“I was deeply moved by a podcast that I had listened to from the Foundling Hospital in London called ‘Take this Token ‘, where the importance of tie-on pockets to women was discussed.
I then went on to create several pockets, but I then decided to hone this idea to create a series of pockets based on women who had links to Worcestershire. Each pocket has been created to reflect an aspect of the life of the chosen women and to tell their story.”
The talk begins with an introduction to what a tie-on pocket is, how they were worn and how they are so significant to women.
The audience will also have the chance to see and touch some pockets up close.
