Forsyth Music Shop has been at the heart of music in Manchester for over 160 years. Spanning over 5 spacious floors (>15,000 sq ft) in the city centre there is a huge range of instruments and music to choose from and dedicated expert staff to help and advise. There are specialist departments for acoustic pianos (over 150 new and 50 second hand), guitars (over 300 acoustic, electric and classical),

string instruments, wind and brass, folk instruments, digital pianos, sheet music (over 40,000 titles in stock) and classical recordings (CDs and DVDs). Forsyths is also a well respected publishing house specialising in piano teaching and recorder performance music. Established in 1857 this Manchester institution is still owned and run by the same family - now in its 5th generation. Ahead of her Wigmore Hall debut later in the year, rising star pianist Madeleine Brown‬ — protégé of the great Kathryn Stott — returns to Forsyth on Thursday 24 September with a stunning programme of works by Ravel and Rachmaninov.

Madeleine already has form with Rachmaninov, having won the RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music Concerto Competition with his Piano Concerto No. 3 earlier this year. She was also the winner of this year’s prestigious Gold Medal Competition at RNCM and the 2025 Bromsgrove International Musicians’ Competition, and has recently made her first appearance on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’.

Our 2026/27 season kicks off with the return of the brilliant ‪ Quintet‬, whose sold-out concert here in January was so well received.

Joining them this time will be pianist Lucian Amette Crosby‬, with whom they won the 2025 Brodsky Chamber Music Prize at the RNCM - Royal Northern College of Music.

They will perform landmarks of the repertoire for piano and winds by Françaix, Mozart and Poulenc, as well as a companion piece to the Poulenc, newly commissioned by the ensemble from Manchester-based ‪composer Kuba Williams, winner of the 2025 RNCM Gold Medal for Composition — and in-house composition teacher here at Forsyth Music Shop!

Our 2026/27 concert series is set to start this month and we have some dates for your diaries! Further information for all these events can be found on our website.

The season kicks off with the return of the brilliant Cardinal Quintet, whose sold-out concert here in January was so well received. Then internationally renowned Kathryn Stott presents Madeleine Brown ahead of her Wigmore Hall debut later in the year.

Joining us from Germany, British pianist Anna McCargow will visit us in October. Finally, Scottish composer William Thomson will play us music from his latest album.
