Hello friends, followers and fellow makers.

It’s been a while since I last posted as I’ve been busy moving into my first home so took a break from Etsy and Instagram!

Now I’m settled and the boxes of yarn have been unpacked, it’s time to get making again. I can’t wait to show you the custom orders I’ve been working on and to make a start on some new stock for my Etsy shop (which I’m hoping to reopen next month).

Ahhh It’s good to be back!

Day 24 - Wrapped & packaged

I know has come to an end but I never made it through all the posts. It turns out posting daily is really hard work but I’d love to finish the challenge so hear goes...

I aim to be as sustainable as possible with my packaging I do this by:

📦 Saying no plastic packaging
📦 Reusing boxes/parcels from deliveries
📦 Using recycled and recyclable materials wherever possible

I love wrapping orders and sending them out to my customers. It’s all about the little details: personal thank you notes for buyers, gift tags and my favourite Waste Knot Want Knot stickers.

Day 16 - From the archive ✨

✨For today’s challenge I’m digging out these cute keyrings.

✨I’m yet to sell any keyrings on Etsy but I’m hoping that later this year I can attend a craft fair or run a stall and show these off in style.

Day 12 - In use 🪴

🪴Seeing photos of my creations ‘in use’ in your homes is my favourite part of running a small business.

🪴This particular customer photo is a personal favourite of mine as not only does it compliment my brand colours, it features a gorgeous spider plant named Bonnie.

🪴I made this plant hanger to order around the size of their plant pot.

Day 11 - Portrait

Hello! It’s me Ellie, the face behind Waste Knot Want Knot.

Some quick fire facts about me:

👉I’ve been tying macrame knots for nearly a year now

👉I have a degree in Fine Art and a masters in Advertising and Design from Leeds

👉I run an eco lifestyle account called

👉I’m a dog lover (who isn’t)

👉I’m from Shropshire but live and work in Manchester

👉I’m a massive foodie and am eating my way across Manchester

👉 My favourite TV program is ‘Line of Duty’ and my favourite film ‘About Time’

👉After joining Etsy as a seller I now only buy gifts from other small, independent businesses

👉The first thing I’m going to do after lockdown is head to a beer garden for Gin & pack of salt and vinegar crisps

Day 10 - Small detail 🏷

🏷A small detail that you’ll find with every Waste Knot Want Knot order is our branded sticker and gift tag.

🏷Our branded stickers are printed on recycled paper and made by the lovely

🏷The gift tags are also made for recycled paper and sourced from a fellow Etsy seller.

🏷I take great pride in adding these tags to finished pieces - a little label of love from me to you.

Day 8 - Work in Progress 📷

For today’s challenge I’m showcasing the work in progress that takes place after the knotting is finished.

📷 Taking photos of my products and editing them ready for etsy listings & socials is very much a part of the process. I have a background in advertising and design so for me this is the fun part, tinkering away creating my brand.

📷As makers we have to wear many hats; designer, digital marketer, photographer, accountant, courier and customer services manager. All of which is why when you buy from a small business you are buying so much more than the finished product and it really is ‘made with love’ X

Day 5 - Newest Make

💛For today’s challenge i’m sharing my newest custom order. This lovely customer liked one of my etsy shop pieces but it was listed as smaller dimensions than what she was looking for.

💛I enlarged the design with a longer dowel and added more yarn/knots and this is the end result.

Day 4 - On your desk ✨

✂️I dream of having a craft room/studio but at the moment my studio fits inside this basket.

✂️I’m currently living with family whilst I save to buy my first home with my boyfriend so a basket is the next best thing. It's portable meaning any room can become a popup studio space and I can keep all the yarns for open orders in one place.

✂️In my Mary Poppins basket you will find 3-6 reels of yarn, a pair of fabric scissors, a fabric tape measure, wooden dowels and a trusty wide toothed comb.

Shout out to all my fellow makers dreaming of having their own studio spaces - we’ll get there one day!✨

Day 3 - Beliefs & Values ✨

For today’s post it felt only right to talk about the core of value of my brand which is offering sustainable home decor.

♻️Sustainability has taken a very important role in my life and since starting my other instagram account nearly 2 years ago i’ve made the commitment to live and consume more consciously.

♻️Small businesses are critical to the sustainable movement as it is the makers, designers and creative thinkers that lead the way in bringing sustainable solutions to consumers.

♻️I aim to be transparent with my business so as to avoid falling into the ‘green-washing’ trap. This Meet The Maker challenge has given me a great opportunity to start talking more about my offering and committments as a small sustainable business owner.

♻️Above are just some of the ways in which Waste Knot Want Knot operates sustainably.

I’d love to hear from other small business owners about how they bring sustainability into their brands. 👏

Day 2 Style ✨

✨I’d describe my style as both modern and boho chic. I love the warmth and texture that macrame brings to any interior.

✨My favourite colours to work with are pastels, in particular mustard, sage green and blush pink. I prefer to use chunky 5mm single twist, recycled yarn, as it gives lots of texture and adds to the handmade look. My favourite knots to create with are the berry knot and of course tassels because who doesn’t love tassels?
