My first time at Chorlton Life Drawing and with Adam Boanas modelling. I was on a buzzy high after, a great afternoon work event so I loved the session and really enjoyed everything I drew. Even when it didn’t go to plan. That’s the joy of art and I think the only real skill you need to nurture. I often have people say they ā€˜can’t even draw a straight line’ but I think, if the line isn’t straight then embrace that and go with it. See where that wobbly little f*cker takes you and have fun with it!

I had afternoon tea with some gorgeous highland cows at Windmill Retreats. Spent a few hours eating cream tea, off appropriately highland cow decorated crockery, and drawing their lovely faces in between feeding them carrots and their own ā€˜cake’. Also got to meet some of the other farm residents including such a fluffy an alpaca that I swear they didn’t have eyes!

Basically an adult petting afternoon which was utterly glorious and I’d definitely recommend it 🧔

My first lifedrawing session in over 2 years. I hadn’t realised it’d been so long until I blew the dust off my sketchbook and saw the last date. It was a lovely evening spent outside with Life Drawing with HOP, our model April, and a surprising number of spiders, who took turns walking over my drawingsšŸ•·ļø

I don’t know why, because it’s invariably the case, but I’m still surprised to find myself the only one drawing in pen at these sessions.

I hated charcoal and chalk from the get go at college (so messy!) so I tried to mimic the style in pencil instead but hated everything I drew. Then a tutor accidentally changed my art style and ended my chalky days forever by asking me… ā€˜why are you trying to use ten lines when one would do?’

Ever since I’ve drawn single lines directly in pen. Sometimes the lines are just right and oftentimes they aren’t. But embracing the many mistakes of a solid line, and figuring out how to save a drawing gone wrong, has made me far happier than a thousand perfect chalky scratchings ever could.

A morning spent peacefully at the exhibition; ā€˜Beneath the Great Wave: Hokusai and Hiroshige’. I particularly loved being able to see the artists original sketchbooks. Though they did momentarily make me question why I would ever bother drawing again.

Loved launch event tonight.

A massive exhibition with 200+ works and some interesting video footage and fun immersive features (you can spray your own merch). It was great to see clips and work from Dismalland in particular, after being lucky enough to go to that back in 2015. Plus I’m very glad they didn’t shy away from including his work around Palestine and refugees.

If you get a chance I definitely recommend checking it out. Not an ad, I just enjoyed it!

Thanks to Jasper from for another fun oil painting session. I struggle to make the time to paint at home because life has a habit of getting in the way. So it’s nice to have a set amount of time where I know there’ll be nothing else to distract me. This little painting isn’t finished though, so I am hoping to schedule in some time to complete it šŸŽØ
