🖨️ Cue Episode 2 of The Unofficial Stretford Museum TV (patent pending).

Reporting from the museum this time is our favourite printmaker, Martin.

Martin is the artist behind Dwelling, a printmaking exhibition with workshops taking place at The Unofficial Stretford Museum this week. He’s telling us a bit more about his practice and what you can expect if you fancy giving printmaking a go.

His popular workshops are back tomorrow, Friday 23 October, from 10am till 4pm. No experience or booking needed, just pop in and have a go.

The window display will also be up until Sunday, so have a look next time you’re passing.

It's event cinema season at The Northern Light Cinema Stretford 🎭

Coming soon to The Unofficial Stretford Museum is Dwelling, an exhibition by local printmaker, Martin.

Martin’s woodcut and etching prints are inspired by everyday life, capturing the people, places and little moments he comes across in and around Stretford.

Alongside the exhibition, Martin will be opening up his printmaking process with informal drop-in workshops on 21st and 23rd. You’ll be able to have a go yourself using simple paper cuts and a printing press, while Martin works alongside you and creates some new pieces of his own.

Each person will make two prints - one to take home and one to add to the exhibition wall, creating a collective piece of work as the week goes on.

Come along, have a go and see what you can make!

In November 2024, Jamie was diagnosed with a terminal grade 4 glioblastoma at the age of 29. He was newly married and was building a career as a screenwriter - writing had always been a huge part of his life.

One of the lesser-talked-about symptoms of a brain tumour is brain fog. For Jamie, it made following complex narratives and working on the longer-form stories he was used to increasingly difficult.

So his creativity changed shaped. Writing started to come in shorter bursts, fragments, images and moments. Poetry began to make sense in a way it never had before.

How I Used to Write Stories is a collection of those poems. It’s a record of still being here, still making things and finding meaning in the ordinary, even while living with a terminal diagnosis.

Come along to The Unofficial Stretford Museum next weekend to spend some time with Jamie’s work and see everyday life through his eyes.

🌳 Introducing our favourite botanist, Severine

A local expert on all things trees, Séverine is the person behind our latest Unofficial Stretford Museum project, The Street Trees of Stretford.

In Episode 1 of The Unofficial Stretford Museum TV, she’s telling us how the project came about and why she’s picked these 10 trees to put on your radar.

The display will be in the museum windows all week, but you can pick up a trail guide from The Mezz (next door to Greggs) and head out to discover Séverine’s top 10 whenever you fancy.
