FR or not FR? 🔥

Here is the deal: You are on the hunt for the perfect upholstery fabric, but you are torn between the extra safety of fire retardant (FR) options and the non-FR fabrics.

So, where do you stand in this debate?

Do you care about paying a bit more for that extra safety or it is something that you are willing to do?

Maybe you prioritize peace of mind above all else, especially considering the potential risks associated with non-FR fabrics.

Or maybe you are more inclined to prioritize other factors like style, affordability, or even the ease of use, even if it means sacrificing a bit of safety.

So, the question remains, FR or not FR? 🔥

"I had this idea, and I had absolutely no idea if it would work. I used the @ hold_it_right_there meridianslingbag as my base, but to be honest, it's so far from that now!

I've really wanted to 'quilt' this faux leather since it arrived online, I've just been waiting for the right project to pop up, and this was it.

I was undecided if I wanted to add wadding between the plush and the leather, and this indecision was further complicated by the fact I couldn't use fusible fleece as I wasn't sure the plush and/or leather could handle it.

In the end I decided to use a (non-fusible) low loft poly wadding. I used the walking foot which came with my sewing machine, and the guide at 1", I marked a 45° angle to start using a quilting ruler.

I usually follow the 'best on top' principle when doing a decorative stitch, but the machine much preferred the plush on top and the leather underneath.

I'm not going to lie, both the faux leather and the plush have quite a lot of 'give' in them and stretch a lot for woven fabrics so it wasn't plain sailing, but I think it looks really good! " -
