A little behind the scenes this morning 🎹

Stephen checking the tuning on this beautiful Steinway & Sons Model S, which is coming into stock, making sure everything is just right before some further filming today.

Not much has changed over the years - Stephen used to wake up early in the morning just to play the piano from a very young age, and by 10 years old he had already started fixing them.

Safe to say, he hasn’t really stopped since! 😄🎹

It’s always fascinating to see where our hire pianos end up and even better to see the finished production after getting a glimpse behind the scenes!

🎹 Another chapter begins...

A few days ago, we shared the story of this concert grand piano arriving at Sherwood Phoenix, and we loved reading all of your guesses about where it came from.

Today, we thought we'd share a little behind the scenes of its journey to our showroom, with a huge thank you to Butler Smith Piano Carriers for another professional delivery.

This piano has spent many years making music in one of London's most iconic recording studios, where countless musicians, orchestras and soundtracks have been recorded. Now it's ready for its next chapter.

Should we:
1. Carry out a full restoration?
2. Keep as much originality as possible?
2. Or perhaps somewhere in between with a sympathetic restoration?

We'll be documenting the entire journey, so you'll be able to follow the transformation from the day it arrived to the day it finds its next home.

🎹 Looking after your Black Polyester Piano is easy.

A black polyester piano will stay looking beautiful for many years with just a little care:

1. Dust regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid household furniture polish or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the high-gloss finish. Don't press too hard, as this can leave fine micro-scratches. If you need to remove fingerprints or marks, spray a small amount of glass cleaner onto the cloth (never directly onto the piano) and gently wipe the case. Avoid getting any cleaner on the keys, strings or other internal parts.

2. Keep your piano away from direct sunlight, radiators and damp areas or fishtanks. Sudden changes in temperature and humidity can affect both the cabinet and the tuning.

3. Have your piano tuned every 6–12 months – just like a visit to the dentist! Regular tuning keeps your piano sounding its best and allows your technician to spot any developing issues before they become more costly repairs.

A well-maintained piano not only looks better but will also provide many years of reliable musical enjoyment. ❤️

🎹 Throwback to a rather busy morning at Sherwood Phoenix Pianos…

Last week we had just finished a morning collection of a Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand, and quite literally five minutes later, our friends at All Instruments arrived with another concert grand for us!

This time, a magnificent Bösendorfer 275 Concert Grand – fully restored and featuring Bösendorfer’s distinctive 92-key keyboard, extending all the way down into those incredible extra bass notes.

Two very different concert grands, crossing paths at our showroom within minutes of each other.

There are definitely worse problems to have than too many concert grands… 😄 At the moment, we have 5 Concert Grand Piano on our showroom floor.

• Yamaha U1 Upright – Black Polyester – 2005, made in Japan and just one owner from new
• Schafer & Sons SS-58 Grand – Black Polyester

As always, each piano will go through our preparation process before making its way onto the website – tuning, servicing and any necessary cosmetic work first, photos and videos afterwards! 🔧
