Cliffs Classics! Going forward we're going to be bringing you highlights from our weekly vinyl drop at .

Kicking us off, and in honour of new Cliffs comandantes , a tasty trio of Italian soundtracks: Pino Donaggio's debut score for Nicolas Roeg's 'Don't Look Now', a kitschy mid-60s spesh from Armando Trovajili, and a compilation of horror cuts by the maestro himself Ennio Morricone, pressed on blood red vinyl šŸ§›šŸ»

Who says you can’t snag a bargain these days huh?

We’ve got a treasure trove of 50p records, books, and CDs outside the shop, and honestly, there are some real gems hiding in there this month.

But nothing quite compares to this: a CD of wildlife sound effects, beautifully encased in a jewel case, featuring an upside-down photo of a Bengal tiger. The back cover boasts a sleeve for a CD-ROM for an AA guide to the pubs and inns of Britain.

At Ghost Papa, we take pride in curating the esoteric, intriguing, and lesser-known releases.

First published as Deathtripping: The Cinema of Transgression by Creation Books in 1995 and subsequently republished as Deathtripping: The Extreme Underground by Soft Skull Press, Deathtripping is a book by Jack Sargeant which examines the New York based, post-punk underground film movement known as the Cinema of Transgression that formed around the manifesto written by underground filmmaker Nick Zedd. The loose-knit group of underground filmmakers included Richard Kern, Tommy Turner, Lydia Lunch, Beth B, Cassandra Stark, Joe Coleman and David Wojnarowicz, amongst others.

The book examines the work of the Cinema of Transgression filmmakers through lengthy interviews with directors, collaborators, musicians and actors associated with the movement. Alongside these the book features analyses of films, an overview of the history of the movement and its influences. It features an appendix of scripts by some of the filmmakers.

Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York, by James and Karla Murray immerses the reader in a virtual tour of NYC at its most authentic. From tiny stores tucked away on narrow side streets to well-known institutions on historic avenues, this book presents the individual images and shop owner stories that together make up a collective history. Up until now, there has been little attention paid to New York’s storefronts; this book reverses that glaring omission and makes clear that the spirit of New York City is etched in its facades.

Los tika toe rest… Released in 1993, the Melvins’ major-label debut Houdini is a stone cold, downtuned, sludge-heavy classic. Kurt Cobain co-produced, played guitar, and provided percussion on Houdini, but was fired by frontman Buzz Osborne due to severe he**in addiction issues. Despite their close friendship, Cobain’s inability to show up or function during sessions forced the band to let him go, with the album eventually being completed with producer Garth ā€œGGGarthā€ Richardson.

A first vinyl pressing of the iconic Lost Highway soundtrack!

This masterpiece is legendary for a reason: it encapsulates the pre-millennial angst of the late ā€˜90s, weaving together Trent Reznor’s industrial rock with the haunting moody jazz of Lynch and Badalamenti. The result? A nightmarish soundscape that feels like a journey through the surreal.

Often hailed as an ā€œaudio-visual hybrid,ā€ this soundtrack stands on its own as a defining piece of alternative music, frequently overshadowing the film’s initial reception šŸŒŒšŸ–¤

Interior Space: A Visual Exploration of the International Space Station is a 2020 book by astronaut Paolo Nespoli and photographer Roland Miller, featuring unique photographs of the ISS interior, training facilities, and Earth-based processing sites, offering a comprehensive visual story of the space program through abstract, documentary-style images. The photos in the book are remarkable! šŸ›°ļøšŸ‘©ā€šŸš€šŸŒ

The project involved Nespoli taking photos in orbit with a custom-built rig, guided by Miller on Earth, who used ISS interior views to plan compositions, resulting in a unique look at the station as a complex artifact. The book also includes essays by space archaeology scholars, exploring the ISS’s significance as a home and a piece of human history.
