I've been balling more yarn I've recently spun, ready to start weaving again. Here are the colours of Provence. We love to drive through the region on our van adventures, the sandstone, the limestone, lavender, rosemary & the painted shutters of the homes. I'm sure if you asked a dozen people about the colours of Provence you'd get a dozen answers but here's my Provençal pallet all in super soft merino. 🥰

Ready to go with another shawl!

Here I am warping my loom. I use a fairly basic rigid heddle loom. I start off in the kitchen for the space (sorry about the mess!) and move into the lounge for a comfy seat. This normally takes a couple of hours but Ive sped things up a bit! ;-) (Music by permission of my gorgeous husband) 😊

This is a commission piece so not for sale. The brief was "Laughter Under The Summer Sky" - you can see the sea, the sunset and the starry heavens (the stars never comeout in photos😣) it's merino, silk and a touch of stardust. If you want a shawl made for a special occasion, or for a special gift or even as a treat to yourself give me a shout! It does take sometime to spin and weave for a special shawl, it's definitely NOT fast fashion!😆 This is an extra wide so good for keep your back cosy, but different widths can be made. 🩷💜🩷

Obviously it won’t look quite like this once it’s woven, but here’s the yarn for “The Sea, The Sunset & The Night Sky” complete with twinkly stars and a sparkly sea. 😍 Although my shawls can often look a riot of colours I generally start like this, laying out the yarn and spending some time jigging them about with an idea in mind and usually a name, but once that’s done I let the yarn do the talking!

Probably my least favourite part of the process, it looks like fun, but to wind enough balls if my yarn to weave a whole shawl I need about 16-18(ish) balls, you’d be surprised how quickly winding fatigue sets in! 😂 it only takes about 3mins for each ball but jeez it’s a snooze fest! I didn’t bore you with the whole thing but you kind of get the idea of what happens after spinning and before the weaving begins. 😬 I’ll try to remember to do some videos of the yarn choosing and weaving processes soon. spinning

I haven’t posted for flipping ages! I’ve got tonnes (or kilos 😉) of spinning done recently, I’ll post some pics soon, at the mo I’m soaking up the sun in Pembrokeshire and spinning up this utterly glorious Peruvian merino I bought in Harlech at the weekend. If you’re ever in Harlech pay Two Black Sheep a visit, jam packed with pretty things and all things yarny! I’ve got a couple of commissions to complete when I’m back at my loom, I’m not sure yet when this yarn will end up once it’s spun but I’m 100% sure it’ll get a very good home! I hope you’re all enjoying the sun, I’ll post those pics when I’m back in Cornwall. 😀
