H**p fibres are 4 to 5 times stronger than cotton. Whilst 100% h**p fabrics are great, they do have a similar feel to linen – not the softest. Organic cotton, however, is super soft.

Our jeans are made with a blend of 55% h**p and 45% organic cotton, giving the best compromise between strength and feel.

That’s not the end of the story though…

The hollow nature of the h**p fibre helps to insulate you from the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. And, both h**p and organic cotton have some great eco credentials! (check the product page for details)

These jeans are in a classic indigo blue and mildly distressed. The distressing process is carried out with state of the art lasers, ensuring that the workers’ health isn’t affected by the nasty sand-blasting process.

There are way, way too many things to list that can be made out of h**p. But, if we look at just four categories, then that will help you imagine the possibilities of h**p:

- It is edible. H**p seeds can be used as a solid or crushed into oil. It is regularly used in a very wide variety of foodstuffs, some of which I highlighted in the slides

- Plastic. Yep, that's right, rather than using oil out of the ground, you can actually use h**p to make a sustainable and biodegradable alternative to conventional plastic. Have a look around the house at all things you've got that are made of plastic - most of them could be replaced with h**p plastic!

- Building materials: There is a h**p equivalent to concrete called "h**pcrete". Don't let the cheesy name put you off, not only can this be used to build houses, but when it is made, it is a net sequester (absorber) of carbon - this is amazing, given that the manufacture of conventional concrete is one of the biggest emitters of CO2! H**p can also be used as insulation

- Clothes - of course clothes! Every type - even shoes and belts can be.

H**p is a wonder material, that I believe will become a huge part of us rebuilding a greener economy!

Below is the list of items in the slides - it is by no means a definative list!

CBD Oil, cooking oil, milk, Flour, tea, honey, Butter, Beer :-), clothes, shoes, jackets, body lotion, face cream, lip balm, shampoo, and conditioner, Cars, biodegradable plastic, biodegradable plastic bags, concrete (called h**pcrete), house insulation, biofuel, pens, paper, toilet paper, furniture, ropes, skis, snowboards, canvas, oil spill cleanup, batteries, wood, coffins.

Are these jeans the best compromise between a tough material and a soft feel?

As are currently, and gallantly, trying to stop the overexploitation of some of our marine protected areas, I thought it was worth re-posting this from earlier in the year...

Do you believe that all marine species are protected from human interference in Marine Protected Areas?

If you do, sadly, in most cases, you’d be wrong.

"Marine Protected Area" is a catch-all phrase that describes an area of sea that has "some" level of protection for certain species and/or habitats.

Nearly 40% of UK's seas are designated as some type of Marine Protected Area, which is great... right?

However, "No Take Zones" (a strongly protected type of MPA) only account for 0.022%.

I take a look at the UK's Marine Protected Area network, where they are, what is actually protected, how they're policed and whether they're working.

When the weather turns cold and it's time to reach for a jumper, you don't just want something that fits, you want one that is comfy to wear all day. One that is soft to the touch and keeps you warm, but not hot.

Thanks to its unique makeup, we're confident that this is the jumper you'll reach for, day after day.

Whilst the jumper is made from one layer of finely woven fabric, the outer face is 100% wool, and the inner face is a blend of 55% h**p and 45% organic cotton. The excellent thermal properties of h**p help to keep you at the optimum temperature and the softness of the wool and organic cotton make this beautiful to wear.

The metal zip ensures, as with all our products, that there is no plastic involved.

This smart pullover is in a deep grey - almost black.

Not convinced? All our products are covered by free returns. We'll not only refund the cost of the item, but all shipping costs as well.

This classic cut fitted shirt isn’t as classic as you might think…

Made with a blend of h**p and organic cotton, this material is not only tough but soft as well.

We describe this colour as deep ocean blue, but it’s actually a very fine stripe of dark and light blue. This fineness means that from more than a couple of metres away, the shirt simply seems to have a depth of colour that is somewhere between mid blue and navy.

On closer inspection though, the fine stripes make the shirt (and hence you!) look very smart… and apparently vertical strips make you look thinner!

The buttons aren’t actually buttons at all – they’re nickel free press studs in gun-metal, with a satin finish.

Unije is a beautiful island that is part of the Cres-Lošinj archipelago, to the south of P**a, Croatia.

These photos were taken from the only village on the island, also called Unije. The only restaurant on the island sits just off this beach.

Eating traditional Croatian food, sipping the local wine and watching the sun gently settle into the sea - life doesn't get much better!
