Your Phone Isn't Broken — It's Just Full

With major iOS and Android updates rolling out over the next few weeks, this is the one thing worth checking on your phone right now: how much free storage have you actually got?

Here's what most people don't realise. A big system update doesn't just install — it downloads the update file, then needs extra free space on top of that to unpack it and install it properly. If your phone's storage is maxed out (or even just a couple of gigabytes free), the update can fail partway through. Best case, you get stuck on a "verifying update" screen and have to keep trying. Worst case, a failed install mid-way through the process can leave the phone in a broken, unbootable state.

And if you're NOT backed up to iCloud or Google Photos when that happens — that's not just an inconvenient afternoon, that's your photos, contacts, and messages gone for good.

The fix takes five minutes:

Go to Settings and check your available storage
Delete apps you don't use, clear out old photos/videos you've already saved elsewhere, empty "Recently Deleted"
Aim for at least 10GB free before any major update — more if you can manage it
Make sure iCloud/Google backup is actually turned on, not just assumed to be

I've just remioved 112 Apps off an android phone that not only woud literally not stay on but was littered with adverts. Worst one I've seen - but i do 3 a day ! Everyday...

Never Install any app off the android store with the word CLEAN or CLEANER in it - they don't work, they do nothing and it's a deadly spiral

Please don't think that if you downloaded an app called CLEAN and it didn't work that one of the 111 extra you install will do any better.

Never install a PDF reader off the app store either - except Adobe. All the others almost without exception are as nefarious as anything called CLEAN.

I spend my whole life hearing 'Apple said' like it's the word of God. Those clever inaccessible giant tech bros that lack accountabilty and the abilty it sems to diagnose a failing battery with their super duper online diagnostic software lnked to your phone.

I knew as soon as I spoke to the customer on the phone before they came the battery was a problem from their symptoms.

Apple diagnosed this customers iPhone 16 battery as being perfectly normal and working well - over a live chat session with diagnostic access to his phone.

The customer came to me this morning with a battery pack attached to his phone because when it wasn't attached it died pretty quickly, also the back of the phone, which had a broken back glass, was bowed, because the battery had degraded and swollen so much it was trying to get out of the phone itself.

The battery was so physically degraded it was dangerous.

Apple said 'it was ok'

PS5 consoles shut down usually cos of dirt and debris and poor liquid metal spread. Console Service £65 for full clean/thermal management - then £50 each year after.

Does your PS5 shutdown randonly ?

Does it tell you it's overheating ?

Two people been in today and no longer have that problem !

This commonly caused by a few things, could be that your consoles internal cooling components such as fan, heatsinks and power supply are clogged with dirt and debris - the ususual household fluff anything with a fan at one end will suck in.

Once airflow is restricted it causes less heat to be dissapated and can casuse your console to shutdown to protect itself.

It could also be the fact that you store it vertically cos that's how they advertise it - but that's the worst way to have it positioned.
Whether you like it or not gravity will force the cooling product, liquid metal that is on the APU to work it's way towards the bottom of the chip over time causing a bald spot at the top.

Where this bald spot occurrs you will get no proper cooling and the device will shutdown to save thermal damage.

If you want to extend the life of your console have it serviced annually and if you've never had it done - book it in soon
