Just back from a lovely morning whittling in Wardown Park in the centre of Luton.

I live very close to this park. And love taking a 5 minute commute to whittle in Wardown.

There was a little rain today, but it was still fine under cover and around the fire.

We whittled a new small tea spoon design. This takes off minimal wood and allows a large area on the handle on which folk can decorate in a myriad of ways.

If you would like to join us one Tuesday morning then follow the link in the bio, or send me a DM.

Whittling is a craft that you can step into with some simple guidance and a craft that can become engrossing and enjoyable. There is also scope to really develop some skill.

It is such a relaxing activity to do, especially around the fire. You learn so much from everyone - today we learnt that there a new, young hat manufacturer in town. What fab news.

If you follow me you know that I make lots of shrink pots. We'll I love to talk about shrink pots with other shrink pot makers too. At the recent Bodgers Ball at the Avoncroft Museum in Stoken Heath I met an old friend Andy

This is one of his beautiful shrink pots that has such an unusual textured surface. It was created using a t- bar auger on the outside of the pot. Typically we use it to clear the material from the inside of the pot. That is so creative, and I think it looks terrific. Andy then decorated the pot with some pigment.

Great work Andy.

Walking through the Bodgers Ball... there's so much going on. We stumbled over Ali talking about Hook tools to a audience of passionate pole lathe turners. As soon as Chips saw who it was who was talking his tail started wagging. Chips loves Ali, OK everyone loves Ali, but Chips knows that where Ali is, then bread is not too far away!!

Happy days.

All set up.

A small fire to keep warm, a first aid kit, some fresh willow to carve and and sharp tools.

I was joined by one willing whittler this week, others were on holiday or not very well.

We had a great time. We whittled willow wood and we whittled words.

We made some small tea spoons and a mini spoon. That is quite an achievement as Kamu is only just getting started with the craft.

If you would like to join us on Tuesday morning in Wardown Park, Luton then follow the link in the profile of send me a DM. There is a place for you around the fire.

We had such a great day at the Elstow May Fayre. An invitation for me to bring the pole lathe and demonstrate bowl turning ended up with our spoon club meeting at the Fayre for our monthly get together.

It was first time on the road all together and it was great fun.

Lots of spoons were being carved along with a variety of other turned and whittled items. We also had a variety of spoons and treen trinkets on sale too.

Thanks to everyone for making it a fun day.

Week 2 of our Wellness Whittling in Wardown Park. I'm running this in partnership with the

The weather was perfect for a day sitting in the arboretum opposite the Wardown Park Museum in Luton. The local council are still planting trees in the arboretum and in the morning two chaps had just planted a Pecan tree adjacent to where we meet to whittle. They said that the tree would produce it's first nut in 40 years time. I love the future planning of LBC!

This was week 2 of our Wellness Whittling initiative. We made tea spoons from some locally sourced Willow wood.

To make spoons you need to use not only straight knives but also curved, hook knives. You can see the look of concentration as people use these knives, perhaps for the first time.

Whittling in the beautiful setting of Wardown Park is such a relaxing, restorative activity. I find it great for my own sense of wellbeing maybe you would too.

Here are a few photos from this week's Wellness Whittling in Wardown Park.

The rain actually held off and by the time we had finished the sun was out.

We again whittled willow, this week we had a go at Whittling a small bird. It is certainly challenging creating 3D shapes. I thought the guys did a great job at whittling this week.

Whittling in the beautiful surroundings of Wardown Park is such a relaxing thing to do. It combines the positive benefits of learning a craft, being outside in nature, and being part of a group.
