Our EU Home Gardener Topiary Award winner, Alain Soulier (Jardins de la Ferme Bleue), has transformed the gardens of his farm, La Ferme Bleue, into a living work of art. 🌿

Inspired by The Three Musketeers, Alain's striking yew topiaries bring the novel's characters to life through carefully crafted geometric forms. Set against dramatic purple and green beech hedges, the topiary display combines storytelling, creativity, and exceptional horticultural skill.

Alain shared how his award has brought “happiness at La Ferme Bleue,” even turning the arrival of his ladder into a celebration with visiting guests!

This week, we're celebrating the outstanding work of our UK Professional Gardener Topiary Award winners, Paul Walton and Jonathan Duncan of Biddulph Grange in Staffordshire. 🏆

Originally created by James Bateman between 1841 and 1868, Biddulph Grange was designed as a remarkable 'garden of rooms', with yew hedges guiding visitors through a series of unique garden spaces. Over time, much of this historic structure was lost before the National Trust began an ambitious restoration project in 1988.

Today, these iconic hedges once again define the garden, thanks to decades of careful restoration and the dedication of Paul and Jonathan, who spend up to 12 weeks each year clipping and maintaining them to the highest standard.

This year's Henchman’s Choice Award went to Joëlle van den Haselkamp’s little bear topiary 🐻

What began years ago as a single cutting, planted at random, slowly took shape with a little patience and determination.

The Henchman team loved this piece for its quiet charm. A reminder that beautiful topiary comes in all shapes and sizes - including teddy bears!

Over the coming months, we’ll be showcasing the incredible entries from the 2026 Henchman Topiary Awards 🌿✨

First, we’re delighted to shine a spotlight on our Home Gardener Winner, Brigette Wilson (.english.topiarygarden) 💚

Brigette’s stunning topiary garden has been lovingly planted, shaped, and maintained by her and her husband Adam over the past 29 years. The garden’s standout features include a yew avenue, a box parterre, and a rose parterre. Alongside these, their Shropshire garden is home to many more topiary creations - including over 100 box balls.

Inspired by iconic gardens such as Levens Hall, Great Dixter, and Hidcote, their work is a true labour of love. Adam is entirely self-taught, and while neither are professional gardeners, their passion for topiary shines through in every detail.
