📚 Good things really do come in small packages…

We came across these tiny little books amongst the shelves at D&M and just had to get a few photos! ❤️

Beautiful little miniature volumes, complete with proper bindings, gilt decoration and an incredible amount of detail for something so small.

Put them alongside their full-sized neighbours and they look even more wonderfully miniature. 📖🔍

It’s little discoveries like these that make working amongst old and unusual books so interesting — you genuinely never know what you’re going to find on the next shelf.

There’s always one book that refuses to blend in! 😄

Biggles has been caught peeking out from between the books at D&M HQ — presumably keeping an eye on what’s going on… or planning his next adventure. ✈️📖

One of the things we love about dealing in books is that you never quite know what will turn up next. From well-loved old favourites and unusual editions to wonderfully nostalgic finds like this one, there’s always something interesting hiding on the shelves.

Now THIS is what you call a big book!

Probably one of the largest books we currently have in stock at D&M Books — and the photos really don’t prepare you for the sheer scale of it. Just look at the last picture! 😲

Dundee: Its Quaint and Historic Buildings by A. C. Lamb, F.S.A. Scot., published in 1895, is an extraordinary large-paper volume, beautifully bound in half leather with gilt lettering and filled with illustrations documenting historic Dundee.

And this isn't simply an impressive old book…

🖋️ Signed by A. C. Lamb
📖 Still retaining its very scarce original publisher's dust jacket

Considering its age and enormous size, it's quite something to see — and certainly one of those books that makes you stop when you walk past it!

📚 GIVE OLD BOOKS A NEW CHAPTER 📚

Not every old book can be saved for reading.

Some arrive with missing pages, damaged bindings, water damage or other faults that mean they simply aren't suitable for resale. But that doesn't necessarily mean their story has to end. ♻️

We used two old, imperfect hardbacks from our stock to add height and character to this coffee-table display — creating a base for the horse sculpture and bringing together the vintage wood, brass and blue-and-white ceramics.

We rather like the result! 💙📖

Old and damaged books can make wonderful additions to your home: 📚 Stack them beneath ornaments or lamps
🪴 Use them to add height to plants and displays
🕯️ Incorporate them into seasonal styling
🏡 Create vintage-inspired shelf and table displays
♻️ Give otherwise unusable books a decorative second life

At D&M Books, we'd always rather see a salvageable book preserved and enjoyed — but when a book is incomplete or beyond sensible repair, there are plenty of creative ways to give it another chapter.
