Our Staff Pick this week is The Jewel Keepers by Sara Sheridan 💎

This fantastic novel, from the acclaimed author of The Fair Botanists, is a book we cannot recommend enough.

The Jewel Keepers follows the lives of the McKenzie women- a family entrusted for generations with the role of secret jewel keepers to the Scottish crown. This is, until, the early 1830s- when a group of ruthless men begin perusing the family, determined to find the secret treasure. With a fabulous mixture of real historical events and fiction, complete with a cast of intrepid and fearless women, ‘s book is a must-read!

Slightly different kind of evening in Mold Library last night…
Crime scene cleaner Ben Giles joined crime writer KJ Whittle for a gripping (and occasionally gruesome) conversation about Ben’s new book The Specialist and the realities of thirty years on the frontline of Britain’s darkest scenes.

Amazing conversation, a wonderful audience and a fascinating look at where real crime meets crime fiction.

Thank you to Ben for celebrating the publication of his new book with us and to Kerry for chairing the evening so brilliantly.

We’re so excited to announce our next author event this July with crime writers Sarah Mellor and Chris McDonald 🍷📚

Novelist and therapist Sarah Mellor will be joining us alongside author and scriptwriter Chris McDonald for an evening celebrating all things crime fiction.

Both authors are based in Northern England, and we’ll be discussing their latest novels, their journeys into crime writing, and why they chose to set their stories in the North- exploring how place, atmosphere, and community shape the crime fiction they create. It is due to be an evening of conversation, insight, and behind-the-scenes writing chat.

All tickets include a complimentary glass of wine or soft drink!
Tickets are available to buy via the link in our bio, over the phone, or in-store.

We can’t wait to see you all there☀️

HAPPENING TOMORROW...............
Join crime scene cleaner Ben Giles, author of The Specialist, and crime writer KJ Whittle, author of Seven Reasons to Murder Your Dinner Guests, for an extraordinary night that pulls back the curtain on Britain’s hidden underworld.

For more than thirty years, Ben has stepped into the aftermath of the unthinkable, witnessing the stories that never make the headlines. KJ Whittle, meanwhile, turns the darker corners of human behaviour into razor‑sharp fiction. Together, they’ll explore where fact meets imagination, how real‑life crime shapes storytelling, and why the truth is often stranger—and more unsettling—than anything on the page.

Expect candid conversation, gripping insights, and a rare chance to hear from two voices who know crime from both sides: the one who cleans it, and the one who writes it.
Tickets from £6 available from www.ticketsource.com/the-moldbookshop or instore

Our Staff Pick this week is Poet Mystic Widow Wife: The Extraordinary Lives of Medieval Women by Hetta Howes 🩷

This extensively researched book offers a fascinating insight into the lives of four different medieval women.

‘Post Mystic Widow Wife’ follows Marie de France, an enigmatic poet; Julian of Norwich, a mystic and anchoress, bricked up alive, Christine de Pizan, a widow and entrepreneur; and Margery Kempe, a ‘no-good wife’. Although each women are from a variety of different backgrounds, they are united by the remarkable writing they each left behind- allowing Howes to trace their pasts, and provide us with a vital glimpse into medieval society. This book is immersive, lively and engaging- telling the important stories of these four women to modern readers for the first time.
