An 84 year old Obaston man was nearly conned out of £20,000 last week. All it took was a knock at the door!
Last week some “Irish talking” cold callers knocked on his door and offered to “check the flat roof over”. He said ok… They got up there, put a hammer straight through the ply, came back down and told him the roof was finished.
£8,000 cash to patch the holes they had just made. Or £20,000 cash to replace the whole thing.
Luckily his daughter rang us as soon as she found out. We went up, saw exactly what they had done, and put it right. Video below, including the footage they took themselves and our fix.
If someone knocks your door offering to check your roof, your drive, your gutters or your chimney… anything, say no. Every time. No genuine local firm works that way!
Please, if you have an elderly parent, neighbour or grandparent living on their own, have a word with them asap and tell them it’s fine to say no and shut the door. The people who do this pick their targets carefully, and it’s almost always someone living alone who doesn’t want to seem rude. 🤬
