Days 2 and 3 of the summer of colour makealong

Last year I got the minis club from the lovely Laura Laura Bailes (The Lonely Knitter) and wanted to make something special with it. I started a Granny Shawl and it was looking beautiful but after only using 6 colours I was already down to two rows per colour, meaning that if I used all the minis (36 in total) it would end up looking very scrappy and uneven by the end and that’s just not me. So I ripped it back and have started squares instead, working a colour progression and I’m in love. I’m waiting until I’m finished them all before I decide if they’ll become a snuggly wrap for winter mornings or if I can get a cardi out of them instead. I should definitely have enough, just not sure whether they’ll work placement wise. Are you a wing it and see if it works kind of crafter or do you a stick to a pattern and follow the rules? I must be honest, I love making something unique that really reflects me ❤️

I’ve decided to share what I’m working on every day for the summer of colour makealong. It won’t be Instagram worthy perfect photos (especially as we are about to start the school holidays here) and there might be days of very little progress but it will be honest and colourful. I miss when everyone used to share what they were working on without the need to make it perfect or keep their grid work related only. I think it’s lovely just to see knitting and crochet on our feeds and enjoy the craft and creativity - that’s why many of us make isn’t it!?

Day one - This is the Christmas in July sweater by Tanis Lavallee made using my yarns and I’m working on the second sleeve just now - so close to finishing!

I am very excited to be co-hosting the Summer of Colour makealong with Helen of Helen - here’s to two months full of glorious colour 🌈

Both Helen and I have videos with the details of the makealong and pattern inspiration (just in case you fancy a new cast on 😉) - you can find them on our YouTube channels - and we would love you to share your projects in our Discord threads. I will only be drawing prizes from my Discord threads (you can find the link in my stories highlight) but I would love if you could brighten up Instagram too by using whenever you are posting

The rules of the makealong are simple
- Runs from 1st July until 31st Aug
- Works in progress are allowed
- You can use any brand of yarn
- Knit or Crochet
- Your project must use more than one colour
- Neutrals are only allowed when they are acting as a contrast to other colours
- No finished objects needed, just share lots of photos in the chatter threads on Discord

Will you be joining us? ❤️

As promised, some pattern suggestions for my rainbow bundles (10 x 20g sock minis). I’ve made four of these patterns already, one is in progress and have the final on my list to be made. They are all great patterns and I think they whizz up because of the many colours! Always a plus when you have multiple cast ons and WIPs 😆

In order:
- Positive Thinking shawl and the Make Your Own Luck shawl both by Lisa Ross Lisa K. Ross (knitting)
- Flip Side Tee and Christmas in July sweater, both by Tanis Lavallee Tanis Lavallee (knitting)
- Intermission shawl by Deanne Ramsay Deanne Ramsay ~ Crochet Designer (crochet)
- Twist cardigan by Ambah O’Brien Ambah: Knitting patterns 🧶 (knitting)

If you have any suggestions or recommendations of other patterns that would work well with these, please let me know below. I love to hear of new patterns to try ❤️

I have been so busy dyeing up hundreds of minis to create some beautiful rainbow bundles for this Saturday and Sunday. I’ll be sharing more of them tomorrow but first I wanted to show this exclusive - this is the Accessible. Inclusive. Welcoming. mini bundle. There will be a very limited number available at the festival this weekend but they are also on the website now as dyed to order in case you aren’t able make it to the show or they sell out quickly.
