About us:
We are just a couple of local Bay anglers that wanted wild ragworm readily available for our regular fishing trips. Wild Ragworm being a first choice bait for most species of sea fish in the Bay area, not only a top bait on it’s own but also an excellent bait to complement others in a cocktail bait.
We sourced several suppliers around the UK and now have 2 preferred suppliers of quality wild ragworm. We buy in bulk to bring down the unit price, which often leaves us with more ragworm than we need for our own fishing sessions. So, we offer these ragworm to local anglers and anglers fishing the bay area at a price that covers our expenses and the bait we use. We are not looking to step on anyone’s toes or fall out with our local bait and tackle shops, on the contrary we only currently supply wild ragworm and we ask the anglers to look to their local bait and tackle shops as the first point of contact when sourcing ragworm. However, in times of short supply bear us in mind as an option for quality wild ragworm as all we’re trying to do is keep your hooks in the water supporting both our local bay anglers and tackle shops.
Availability:
Unlike farmed ragworm, wild dug ragworm are subject to availability as there are many variables that can impact sourcing ragworm. The size of the tides, time of year, weather and the dedicated diggers themselves all play a part in ragworm availability, not just in the amount but also in size depending on the time of year. Mature worms turn a brighter green colour as they approach spawning season, which can be from November through to March, and these green worms make for a poor bait and also don’t keep well. So, through the winter month’s the spawning ragworms are not taken to allow the ragworm beds to repopulate and recover. Ragworm sourced throughout winter will tend to be the smaller 15cm to 20cm ones leaving the larger mature ones to reproduce. We need to manage the rag beds for sustainability otherwise; they will become over dug and disappear.
Stock:
Our aim right from the start was to have Ragworm readily available 7 days a week for our own fishing sessions but, as our customer base has grown we’ve had to grow with it resulting in us holding anywhere between 400 to 800 ragworm in stock throughout the summer season. As mentioned earlier, wild dug ragworm is subject to availability and this is why we have more than one supplier around the country, so, if one is suffering from small tides not uncovering the rag beds one week we still have the option from our other supplier further along the coast that can still get his diggers on the rag beds. We do our best to supply to the demand, which can be very difficult as a week of bad weather can see the demand fall rapidly. The more notice you can give us on your requirements the better it is for us when purchasing rag stocks.
