🎣 TEAM GERRY'S CATCH REPORT: PAUL'S ANGLESEY CONGER SESSION 🎣

​Team Gerry’s member Paul headed up to Anglesey last night on the hunt for a double-figure Conger—and came incredibly close despite some brutal conditions! 🌊🌬️

​With strong winds and a heavy tidal swell, it was a seriously tough shift. The rods were bouncing all over the place, making bite detection nearly impossible, and the rough swell unfortunately cost him a good-sized eel early on.

​To tempt them out of the snags, Paul kept it strong and simple: a running ledger rig, a single 8/0 hook, and big mackerel baits. 🐟🔥

​The persistence paid off! After landing a couple of smaller strap congers, Paul finally banked a cracking eel weighing in at 9lb 10oz—just shy of that magic double-figure mark.

​Given the brutal weather, pulling out a solid fish like this is a massive result. Top angling, Paul! 💪🎣

An absolute behemoth from the depths! 🚨

​Check out this incredible catch by Danny from the Gerry’s team! 🎣

​This stunning female was landed from the shore, and the moment she picked up the bait, her immense power was unmistakable. It was immediately clear that a very special fish was on the end of the line.

​The fight was steady, demanding, and incredibly physical. She used her considerable weight and strength to hold deep and surge away from the shore, testing every single part of the tackle.

​The Gear That Tamed the Beast:

​🎣 Rod: Century X90 – Handled her perfectly! Despite its slim profile and responsive action, it showed phenomenal power, absorbing every heavy run while giving Danny the strength and control to guide her safely into the shallows.

​🪝 Hook: 6/0 Cox & Rawle Catfish
​🪢 Rig: Pulley dongle rig tied with 200lb mono

​Catch & Release:
As she came closer, great care was taken to keep her settled and under control in the shallow water. Once safely landed, she was given a quick check-over and carefully supported. After a few photos, she was walked back out and given time to recover properly.

​She soon began to kick strongly, swimming away with plenty of power before quickly returning to the depths—exactly where a magnificent fish like this belongs! 🌊🐟

🎣 Team Gerry’s on the Bank: Matt’s Masterclass at Wyreside Fisheries!

​Matt from the Gerry's team has been putting in the legwork over on Bantam's Lake at Wyreside Fisheries, and his watercraft was absolutely spot on.

​Instead of just dropping into the first available swim, Matt did his laps until he found the fish. With the wind pushing in the exact same direction for a few days, he trusted his gut and set up on the back of the wind—making the brilliant call that the fish had grown tired of the constant wind pressure and backed off. 🧠💧

​🔥 The Winning Tactics:

​The Rig: A classic Blowback Rig utilizing a razor-sharp Size 4 Kamakura Krank.

​The Hookbait: A 15mm Ocean Elements hard ho**er, tipped with a piece of pink fake corn for that perfect visual strike.

​The Spod Mix: He kicked the session off with 20 spombs over each rod. The mix featured a heavy blend of 15mm Monkey Mix and Ocean Elements boilies, pellet, and sweetcorn—all completely drenched in Monkey Mix Glug and Oil to leak massive attraction through the water column.

🎣 A Proper Scratching Session Masterclass from Team Gerry’s Ricky! 🎣

Ricky has been out in the bay proving exactly why scaling down your gear and scratching for bites can lead to an absolutely epic night! When conditions are tough, finesse is everything.

The Session:
The night started off by battling through a horde of eels, but the perseverance paid off with a steady stream of flounder right through the ebb—including an absolute 45cm clonker! At low water, the eels finally switched off and the wind picked up. It was looking quiet on the silver front, but the minute that tide turned, the bass arrived in numbers! Ricky landed a fair few, with the smallest at 42cm and the biggest hitting a beautiful 57cm (4.5lb).

The Scratching Tactics & Gear:
A lot of anglers don't believe him when he tells them, but Ricky swears by scaling right down for estuary work:
* The Rig: 2-hook clip down.
* The Hooks: Size 4s (Yes, size 4s for bass!).
* The Bait: Just a couple of blow lug. It is an absolute killer setup for maximizing bites.

To match this light-tackle approach, Ricky was fishing with the Tronixpro Guerilla GT Bass rod paired with the Guerilla Bass 6500 FS reel. We honestly can’t think of anything you could change to make this combo better for this style of fishing. It is tried, tested, absolutely proven, and guarantees maximum fun when fishing light.
