Summer holidays are upon us, and so is the rainy season! It's the time of year when everyone is looking for activities and so we thought we'd share a couple of our favourite 'weekend projects' with you.

With the summer weather decidedly on the 'iffy' side in the UK so far, it's a great time to see if you can spot anyone sheltering in your Bee Brick in the garden. It's always satisfying when you see a little head peering out, wondering whether the sun is going to make an appearance anytime soon, or whether to stick another layer on and watch the BeeBeeC 🤣 (See what we did there?! 🤷‍♀️)

Make homes havens for wildlife.
That's all the government were asked to do recently, as a result of the feather speech campaign. To make swift nesting sites a mandatory part of newbuilds - and they said no. An opportunity to make a real difference to declining swift populations, and other cavity nesting species like sparrows, missed.

Sometimes it's easy to feel like the problems of the world are too big for us to make a difference, but it's simply not true. OK, there are some things we can't do but there are so many simple things that we can do - and they can have a great big impact!
Here are 3 things we could potentially do - why not add your own actions in the comments below:
We can make a hole in our fence so that if there are any hedgehogs left in our neighbourhoods they can increase their foraging range and hopefully, survive!
We can plant great plants for bees, butterflies, birds and bats - think all the B's! (and all the other insects too)
If we see somebody with scaffolding or undertaking building work we can ask them if they've considered installing a bird box, bat roost, or bee brick - if you don't ask...

As Solitary Bee Week 2023 comes to an end we've loved keeping up with all the bee-themed activities and all the great bee facts we've seen being shared. Solitary bees are awesome and we should all bee aware of them, plant with them in mind and create space for them in our homes and gardens.
