A moment we’re incredibly proud of…

We’re absolutely delighted to share that Rathlin Wool Rope has won the Innovation in Agriculture Award at the Northern Ireland Farming Awards 2026! 🎉

This award is a celebration of something we’re particularly passionate about at Sustainable Rope — taking traditional materials and knowledge and finding new ways to use them for a more sustainable future.

Old technology for a new future !!

Rathlin Wool Rope is the result of an incredible collaboration between Sustainable Rope, Ulster University, Ulster Wool and Islander Kelp, working together through the Future Island-Island project. The team developed wool rope specifically for use on Rathlin Island’s seaweed farm, bringing together local wool, traditional rope-making knowledge and new research.

🌊 But why wool rope?
The project explores how a natural, locally sourced fibre can be used in marine environments instead of relying solely on conventional synthetic materials. It also creates a new use and potential value for local wool, connecting farming, fibre, marine production, research and innovation in one project.

For us, it’s about more than making rope. It’s about asking what materials do we already have around us, and how can we use them differently.

From a sheep’s fleece 🐑 → to wool → to rope → to supporting seaweed cultivation
We’re incredibly proud to have worked alongside such an inspiring group of people and organisations to bring the Rathlin Wool Rope story to life. A huge thank you to everyone involved, this award belongs to the whole team.

We might have just found your dog’s new favourite place to sleep… 🐶🤎

Introducing our new 100% wool dog blanket — made for muddy paws, afternoon naps, chilly evenings and, apparently, taking over the sofa.

Made from natural wool, this blanket is warm, soft and naturally breathable, making it a lovely cosy layer for dogs without feeling stuffy. Wool is also naturally durable and moisture-managing, so it’s a practical choice for everyday use as well as being beautifully soft. Our wool is sourced from British farms and our products are made from natural fibres rather than synthetic materials.
And then there’s that smell… 🐑

If you know our wool products, you’ll know they have that unmistakable natural wool/lanolin scent. It gives the blanket a wonderfully comforting, fresh-from-the-farm smell — and as an added bonus, the natural wool scent can help mask those less-than-fresh doggy smells that seem to appear out of nowhere! 😂

A little bit of wool, doing a lot of work 🐴

Featuring this stunning horse,
Our Brampton Lead Rein, pictured here doing exactly what it was made for — out with the horses.
Made from our Brampton wool rope, spun from 100% British sheep’s wool, it’s soft in the hand while still giving you the strength and control needed when handling larger animals. The 2m lead rein is finished by hand, with natural-fibre whipping and a back splice at the end.

And because we make our rope from wool and keep the manufacturing process here in the UK, this is a lead rein with a little more of a story behind it — from farms, to rope, to the end of the lead. 🌿🐑

Available in 12mm and 14mm, with the 14mm option recommended for larger animals such as horses.

We’re looking forward to taking our rope, fabric and braid down to Daylesford Organic for the ISDS International Supreme Sheepdog Trial on Sunday 13th September.
It’s a brilliant chance to come and see our products up close, have a chat with us and see what we’ve been making from wool. 🐑🤍

A new shade of Brampton 🤎🩶

We’ve been experimenting with our Brampton wool, and we’re very excited to introduce two beautiful new colours-
Brampton Brown & Brampton Gray

Both have that lovely natural variation you only really get from wool, with the fibres giving each rope its own depth and character. From the warm, earthy tones of Brampton Brown to the soft, stormy shades of Brampton Grey, we’re rather spoilt for choice.
