Fabulous piece of French country pottery from our latest haul of treasures.

A very early 19th century Cruche de tate translating to "head jug" or 'Dourne'. For carring water from the well back home on the person's head.

Very Southern French this one from the Languedoc - Tarn regions. Their unique shape and structure set them apart from standard French country pottery.

This one is totally unglazed to allow the water to seep through the very thin Tarracotta and evaporate, keeping the water cool.

Drop in to the Dusty Gems Retail store or give us a follow to keep up with our latest amazing and unique rustic and primitive French farmhouse finds.

Old rustic Elm benches

Some benches are just made to go under trees in the shade on hot summer days.

This reminds me of hot days in hot Dusty countries I spent so much time in, the old man or lady sitting on the bench as children ran around or sat by them , then latter as the day closed the smell of sage and spices,

And then a sky full of stars so bright and so many, you seemed trapped beneath them .

But that's another story for a another time

Give me a follow and a like, and drop into the store the weekend, when im back from buying

Fresh in to the Dusty Gems shop a fabulous early Hungarian 19th century box bench / bed, yep that's right the front slides out to form a very cute child's bed, as well as normal storage. The original rustic country green paint has a beautiful patina along with being worn and chipped from its years of use in the Farmhouse. A perfect piece of authentic rustic Farmhouse furniture for the hallway or kitchen

This early 19th Century French confit pot has lost part of its rim and one of its handles during a lifetime of use. Many would walk stright passed it,

Today a handful.of fading sunflowers, the damage is almost disappears. Your eye drawn instead to the warm honey glaze, the flowing glaze flames .

Perfect objects can be beautiful

But sometimes imperfect ones tell a better story.

That's why theses working stiffs will always have a place at Dusty Gems

Beauty of the imperfect.

For over 150 years this confit pot earned a living
Lifted by its handles
Knocked agaist stone sinks
It's scars are its history

The most beautiful pieces are the ones that have lived the hardest lives

At Dusty Gems we call them our ' working Stiffs'
Honest pottery shaped by daily use
Because giving a beautiful future to pieces with a past is what we love to do.

Most people are blind beyond their own nose and their own perception of the world , how many have noticed each caption is different below each image ? Leave a comment if you have 😊 🌼🌻

The first one has lost most of it's light Lemon glaze leaving the white under glaze . The second has a lovely brown glaze with a yellow swirl glaze.

Perfect and classic rustic decor and being a medium size they are not over powering,

French Altar cross
Some of the most beautiful objects begin with the humblest of materials.

It's a beautiful reminder that devotion and craftsmanship doesn't depend on precious metals, but simply on the Hands that made them.

Unlike the brass and silver crosses that have survived, this one was fashioned by the local Tinsmith every curve and seam done by hand cut by hand more than two centuries ago

It speaks of faith and everyday devotion in a small rural church in Eastern France.
