Some mirrors simply show your reflection. This one brings nearly 140 years of its own history with it.

Dating from around 1880–1900, this small French cushion mirror has a substantial wooden frame dressed in richly patterned repoussé brass. Angled mirrored panels surround the bevelled central plate, creating a wonderfully deep, almost architectural shape.

And then there’s the glass…

Its original silvering has aged into the most beautiful foxing—soft, cloudy and completely impossible to reproduce with quite the same character. We wouldn’t dream of replacing it or polishing away the warm patina. Every mark belongs.

Small enough to fit into an awkward wall space, but ornate enough to become the detail everyone notices.

This wonderfully eccentric pair of ceramic bookends has been made to resemble a collection of richly bound old volumes—their warm, mottled glaze, gilded details and curling “pages” giving them the air of something discovered in the library of a rather mysterious country house.

They may not possess centuries of history, but they certainly know how to create the illusion of it.

Mr & Mrs Bazaar are currently celebrating 10 years of wedded bliss ( or bliss-like, for most of the time) in Puglia, Italy. We've found that the cafe culture suits us very nicely! Unfortunately, Bazaar will be closed on Thursday & Friday after long-term arrangements were rather rudely jettisoned. The lovely Mr Rees will be in charge of serving you all on Saturday, and through into next week though so go say hi and keep him busy.

Sometimes a fresh piece comes into the shop that just completely steals my heart, and this absolute beauty is sitting right at the top of my list!

​Standing at a grand ~70cm tall, this statement urn is a genuine piece of mid-century Italian art pottery crafted by the Bieme workshop back in the 1950s/60s. Look closely at those delicate, feathered leaves—that’s a rare hand-painted mimosa motif. Instead of the usual generic roses you often find on vintage Italian majolica, a single artist painted this whole botanical design by hand, right down to signing the glaze in matching olive and sepia tones. The level of detail and craftsmanship is just incredible.

The urn is available instore at Bazaar, Narberth. Pop in and admire her!
