For the last month or so I have been messing about with a lot of different types of material for braiding jesses. I like to keep the equipment I put on my own birds very light and minimalist, so I wanted to figure a way to keep this going in the equipment I produce. I've sourced some 'micrparacord' that is made by the same paracord manufacturer that supplies the cord used for our loop leashes, this has proved very strong with a breaking strain of 45kg, once braided I can literally hang off it, and it will sustain a 2m fall of 25kg with almost no stretch (+/- 5mm), I'd be happy to see this on hawks of the 900-4000g range, but it'd look daft on anything smaller. I have sourced some micro thread, that I'd happily put on any small raptor under 450g, although it's quite hard on the fingers it makes some great looking jesses. For the 450-900g range I've managed to find some lovely cord that although not much thicker than the microthread has almost double the breaking strain, and is much hardier/keeps looking nicer for longer for medium sized raptors.
These are not currently for sale, until I've done rigorous testing over time with my own hawks to determine longevity, however I may in the near future be looking for some testers to try a couple of pairs out.
