Rainbows is a vibrant, friendly little shop selling a multitude of haberdashery and crafting goodies - a treasure trove of yumtious gorgeousness. It is run by me - Fiona, the Purple Lady! Besides all the delicious crafty, stitchy, sticky, yummy stock I hold, I also offer children's and grown-ups crafting parties and ad hoc workshops (i.e. workshops are not timetabled - message or pop in and we can

arrange it for a mutually convenient time - happy to do one-to-one or come along with a friend or two! Also featuring Purple Lady Designs bespoke glass bead jewellery, alterations, repairs, restringing, new clasps, pearls re-knotted and strung on silk.

Well Hello My Lovelies - it's been a while!! And what a pickle we are all in - a very strange and scary world at the moment. So here's a unicorn for you. 😊
Anyways, I was hoping to be able to post something positive about me and Rainbows getting into action again, but sadly, no; not yet anyway. Unfortunately my health has thrown me another curve ball and slap bang in the middle of a sodding global pandemic my body decides to throw a blood clot into my lungs - yaay!! (a pulmonary embolism to give it its proper name - don't Google it; I started to but was too freaky to read so stopped very quickly)! Anyways, the doctors are pleased with my progress so far but I'm going to be out of action for quite a while longer, especially putting all this on top of the RA. Would really like to take this body back for a refund!!!
So, what does all this mean for Rainbows? Quite honestly, god knows!! But, I'm a tough, stubborn old bird and do not give up easily and love my crafts and my shop. Don't quite see me being a Phoenix but I'll give it a damn good go!! Watch this space!! 😀

Hello all you lovely people! 😊
Well, January didn't quite work out as planned (!) but onwards and upwards, let's see what February brings!!! I now have some slightly more realistic plans for reopening Rainbows. Oli and I will be spending the rest of Feb re-organising and re-arranging the shop to make it easier and more accessible to run. Well, technically Oli will be doing the lifting, carrying and moving; I'll be doing more of the sitting, pointing and saying 'move that there' kind of re-organising!!! During this time we will be open randomly so if you're passing and the lights are on or the cardboard animals are outside, please feel free to come on in - it will be dis-organised but if we can reach what you need we will be happy to serve you. If you are making a special trip or want something very specific, please message me here and I'll let you know more accurately when someone will be there.
We are hoping to be up and running and back to normal opening hours by mid March, if not before. I'll update on here as and when. Hope to see some of you soon, even if it's just for a chat!! Missed you all!! 😀💜💜 Fx

Well, that was a lovely Saturday afternoon! I've so missed my shop and was lovely to get in there to stroke the stock and reassure the animals that they haven't been abandoned (yes, I know they're cardboard!! - doesn't mean they don't have feelings!!! 😀)!! Thank you to my fabulous son Oli for helping me (couldn't do it without him!) and to all those who popped in, thank you - was lovely to see you. I am intending to reopen in the new year (probably mid January) but will be reduced hours and a bit erratic while we work out how to manage things. To all those of you who have offered help over the last few months - thank you so much, it is really appreciated and I may well take up the offers in due course. It's just hard to work out the logistics of helping if I'm not there - so much of my filing, planning and stock control is in my head!!!
Also, popped in to see the gorgeous Emma at to pick up a pink and purple spotty cheese board I painted about a million years ago. Was lovely to see you and lovely to know I'd been missed!! I've certainly missed you and look forward to much pottery painting in 2020!!
Anyway, Merry Christmas all of you and here's to a healthier and more positive 2020!!!

NOTICE: RAINBOWS WILL BE OPEN FOR AFTERNOON OF SATURDAY 21ST DECEMBER FROM 12.30 😊😊😊
Rather late notice and also a bit too little too late for Christmas BUT if any of you are desparate for some Decopatch paper, a bit of ribbon or maybe a unicorn kit do pop along. I've got tons of Decopatch - papers, glues, mache items (including unicorns, trophy heads and much more); I had a massive order delivered just before I became ill and the boxes are still lieing around unpacked!!. If you do come along be gentle on us, it'll be my first time in the shop since the beginning of August, the place is a bit cluttered with boxes (on top of its normal cluttered state) and we're still struggling with the wheelchair/not able to walk very well thing!! But, I'm really looking forward to getting down there, even if for a short time, and I will do my very best to cater to your needs.

Hi All! Well lots of switching off and on again, uninstalling and re-installing, and I think I've managed to reconnect with the inter-web!! Yaay!! 😊 Been missing y'all and Rainbows tons and tons. There is only so much TV a girl can take!! Although Strictly, RuPaul and Netflix have done much to keep my spirits up and my sanity intact (!!). I've watched so many box sets I'm seriously considering starting a TV review blog!!
Anyways, a quick update. I have full blown Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is pants, but the numerous medications do at last seem to be having an effect. Unfortunately, my knees still don't seem to understand what their job is so mobility is still a big issue - a stick to shuffle and hobble about the house, a wheelchair if I manage to get out. The meds have some pretty yucky side effects (you don't want to know!!!) but main one is extreme tiredness.
BUT things are improving all the time albeit very slowly and I'm assured by my Rheumatologist that the goal is to get me back to before with the odd bad day - Oh yes please!! Here's hoping!!
Will post again very shortly with plans about when I might be able to reopen.

TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO ILL HEALTH
Well hello all,
My apologies for the 'radio silence' for so long but I'm having a bit of a rough time of it and it's taking a long time to get my head round it all!!
As some of you are aware, I have been diagnosed with a condition called Palindromic Rheumatism - and it's a bitch!!! It's so damn random and at the moment completely relentless!! I'm having severe mobility and pain issues on a daily basis. I'm on some medication which will hopefully reduce the frequency and severity of the flares but these take around 12 weeks to have an effect, if they're going to work. I have been taking them for 4 weeks so far.
The reason for all this detail is to make it clear that unfortunately Rainbows is going to have to remain closed for the foreseeable and I am devastated. I love my little shop and am so not ready to say goodbye to it. I am doing my best to stay positive about some kind of recovery from this but have to accept that it's going to take time.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused to any of you but I truly have no control whatsoever over the situation.
Hopefully will have better news before too long.

Hi All. Well, I seem to be saying this a lot recently but my apologies, Rainbows will be closed again today! I truly am very sorry, this is going into a second week of being closed. Not good. Not good at all. But afraid I am really struggling with rheumatic flare ups on a daily basis at the moment. On the positive side, I've been taking CBD oil for nearly a week and that is certainly doing something. It's a slow process because you have to increase the dosage gradually to get the best benefits from it. Also starting something called Hydroxychloroquine today, something that is supposed to help my immune system chill the hell out!! Here's hoping.
Anyway, please feel free to message me on here if you have any urgent enquiries and I'll do the best I can for you. Hopefully will be back in the shop later this week.
On a totally unrelated but really positive note, I did manage to make it up to London at the weekend to enjoy my lovely daughters birthday pressie to me - tickets to The Magic Mike Live Show!!!! OMG, OMG, OMG!! What an amazing show!!! Stories for another day, but ladies, if you get the chance, go! You'll love it!!!😀
