As we moved through the autumn equinox, Kirkharle is beginning to glow with the colours of the season.

There are soft hints of gold around the lake, leaves rustling beneath your feet and a crispness in the morning air. Across the wider estate, the last of the harvest is giving way to the next season’s work, as fields are prepared for autumn sowing.

Back at the Courtyard, it’s the perfect time to warm up with a coffee at The Running Fox, then wander through the studios and discover what our makers are creating for autumn and winter.

If you’re joining us for tomorrow morning at 9am, keep an eye out for the changing colours along the way.

Every Saturday is a parkrun morning at Kirkharle Courtyard. 9am - run, jog, walk or skip - however you take part you will be welcomed by the wonderful Kirkharle Courtyard parkrun team of volunteers 🏃🏻‍♀️
And when your finished being energetic - there’s coffee and breakfast from The Running Fox or Browns Larder. Sustainable contemporary craft workshops to explore and have a wander.

And if you want to make a weekend of it - remember we have a green campsite right next door on the estate. In the shadow of St Wilfrid’s Church - KMF Camping offer spacious picturesque pitches and as glancing hut, Jean if you don’t fancy a night under canvas.

The huge smile from Nature on Saturday was a definite sign that Sunday was going to be a good day for the Great North Run. And it was. Made me very proud to be from the North East - such an incredible day in so many ways. Breakfast was top notch on Monday from The Running Fox

The Great Summer Raffle

Just two more sleeps until The Great North Run. If you are doing the half marathon and fancy a warm up we have Kirkharle Courtyard parkrun at 9am tomorrow morning.

There’s still time to enter our Great Summer Raffle - lots of lovely prizes donated by the small businesses of the courtyard. It will be drawn tomorrow afternoon.

If you’re not running, there’s still plenty of reasons to visit. Sustainable contemporary makers; The Running Fox cafe for lunch, coffee or afternoon tea; accessible lakeside walks and paths across the estate.

Whatever the reason - make it a Kirkharle Courtyard day!

As the sun set over Kirkharle on Sunday evening, there was a familiar sound overhead. Looking up, a skein of geese crossed the evening sky in perfect V formation, heading south.

Around the Courtyard, things are changing too. The swallows and house martins that have filled our summer skies are beginning their remarkable migration, leaving the eaves and fields a little quieter. We’ll miss them — but look forward to welcoming them back next spring.

And if September has you feeling like a little migration of your own, follow the geese to Kirkharle. 🍂

Just 30 minutes from Newcastle, you’ll find coffee and something delicious, independent makers and producers, beautiful countryside to explore — and, perhaps most importantly, space to breathe.

Make a day of it, take the scenic route, and settle into the slower pace of Northumberland as summer slips into autumn.

Congratulations to Nick from all of us at Kirkharle Courtyard! He picked up the Community Champion Award at Kirkwelpington and District Show. His work to bring parkrun to our community has been tireless and with the support of an amazing team of volunteers, the Anderson family, RAY WIND FUNDS ,Penney Petroleum and local businesses, we wouldn’t have a weekly parkrun here at the Courtyard every Saturday at 9. Thank you to Nick and his team and to everyone who volunteers - parkrun is a wonderful community in itself and a great start to the weekend!

Volunteers are still welcome to joy in. There’s a warm welcome for all and it couldn’t run without you!!! ❤️

COMMUNITY CHAMPION AWARD!

Yesterday,at nearby Kirwhelpington Village Show,our parkrun was honoured with the community champion award!

The cup was presented to Nick, one of our event directors.Although it was his idea that started things ,he is quick to point out that Kirkharle Courtyard parkrun's existence is entirely dependant on a truly amazing team of dedicated volunteers ,amazing back up from local businesses,and a great flow of lovely parkrunners!

Well done all of us!

The parkrun has had tremendous continuing support from The Ray Wind Fund and additional funding from Penney petroleum.

And yes,we need volunteers for next week.Anybody can help.Everybody enjoys it!

Plans for the weekend?

Kick off with Kirkharle Courtyard parkrun at 9am tomorrow morning. Remember to book a table at The Running Fox 🦊 if you’re heading for breakfast afterwards.

It’s Kirkwelpington & District Show this weekend too which is just up the road from Kirkharle Courtyard. Visit the show and enjoy the exhibits in Horticulture, Baking & Preserves, Handicrafts and Art. This is a wonderful community event and a great visit with the kids. Head down to the courtyard for lunch afterwards or coffee; a walk around the estate; visit our resident makers and shops. All in all a fabulous day out in rural Northumberland.
