8 days to go… 🧵🌊
As I sit here by the sea at Bamburgh, I’ve been thinking about Artful Threads and everything we’ve explored together.
There’s a lot of talk about the importance of developing your own artistic voice and finding your style. But I’m not sure I believe you need to do that at all.
For me, creating is about exploring.
It’s about trying different methods, playing with ideas, making mistakes, changing direction and discovering what you enjoy. Your style doesn’t have to be something you consciously set out to find. It can simply emerge as you experiment and, most importantly, have fun.
That’s what I wanted Artful Threads to give you.
Over the course we’ve covered so much — different techniques, approaches, ways of creating shape, texture, movement and colour, and lots of ways to make your tapestry uniquely yours.
It’s been a huge part of my own creative journey too, and my teaching has evolved along the way.
But now it’s time to say farewell.
There are just 8 days left to enrol in Artful Threads before enrolment closes on 30 September.

Come and explore. Come and play. Come and find out what kind of artist you want to be. 🩵

Phew. Next YouTube lesson will be edited tomorrow.
It ended up being a long exercise as I covered a lot in this little 3.5” square desert scene.
I cover:
Curves - shallow and steep
Shapes - order to weave them (and there’s a lot)
Single warp wrapping
Tiny circles
Weft bundle placement
How to add/decrease weft bundles
How to change the shed
It was an experimental filming exercise for me as I’ve never woven a cactus before and I love the end result.
I’ll post on my stories when it’s ready to watch 🧡
I used Weavers Bazaar medium yarns but you can use one strand of DK/8 ply for this exercise.

A big smile for a big THANK YOU!

Since announcing that enrolment for Artful Threads is closing on 30 September, the response has been amazing. So many of you have signed up, and I honestly can’t thank you enough for your support.

If you’re wondering why I’ve made this decision, my previous post (pinned to my profile) explains it all.

I’m feeling incredibly excited about what’s next and, after a year since I finished filming Artful Threads, I’m more than ready to start filming new content and let my teaching continue to evolve.

Thank you for being here, for trusting me, and for coming along for the journey. It really does mean so much. 🥰

Filming has just got serious! Well… sort of. I still try not to take myself too seriously when I’m filming, but I do now have a dedicated filming area in my studio, which feels very exciting!
I feel incredibly lucky that my online teaching is really taking off. It’s all been such a natural journey, and I’m excited to see where it continues to take me.
Today I’m filming for my YouTube channel, where I’m going to be playing with some fun little drawings (cartoons!) while going over weft placement and shapes. A chance to build on and solidify some of the things we’ve been learning in my Beginner’s Course.
And today’s challenge… a cactus! 🌵
I have never woven a cactus before, but honestly, that’s what I love about doing this. Trying something new, figuring it out as I go… and doing it all on camera!

Complex portrait time. It’s so important to me that I keep pushing myself creatively. I think the more I challenge myself in my own practice, the more I can evolve as a maker — and as a teacher.
This is only my second ever portrait, and it feels so good to be back working on one. I’m working at just 3.5” wide, with at least 9 weft bundles on each row, so there’s a LOT going on in a very small space!
This time I’m weaving the hair vertically, which gives me much more movement and texture — and I’m really enjoying figuring it out as I go.
For me, teaching isn’t about reaching a point where I know everything. It’s about continuing to experiment, get things wrong, learn new approaches and keep evolving. ❤️

✨ A new chapter ✨
After a lot of thought, I’ve decided that enrolment for Artful Threads will close on 30 September.
I filmed Artful Threads throughout 2025, and it has been such an important part of my journey as a tapestry artist and teacher. I’ve loved seeing the wonderful work so many of you have created through the course.
But a year on, I’ve continued to learn, experiment and develop my own practice — and my teaching has evolved too. The way I understand and explain tapestry techniques has grown and changed through teaching, making and simply having more time at the loom.
I feel ready now to take all of that learning forward.
Rather than continually revisiting an earlier body of work, I want to put my energy into creating and designing new things, with everything I’ve learned along the way.
So this feels like the right time to close this chapter and make space for the next one.
If you’ve been thinking about joining Artful Threads, you’ll have until 30 September to enrol. You will maintain lifetime access to this unique course.
