As part of my Whickham Cottage brand I wanted to offer a service that would benefit a generation that is sadly often forgotten or over looked …….
A little dream that’s been growing quietly in my heart… 💚
If you know me, you’ll know I’ve never needed a special reason to be kind.
I’ve always believed that the smallest acts of kindness can change someone’s whole day.
A kind word.
A smile.
A little discount when I know someone could do with a break.
A small unexpected gift.
They’re tiny gestures, but I’ve seen the difference they can make. Sometimes all people need is for someone to notice them.
Then, I lost one of the most important people in my life, my precious Dad.
Like so many people who have experienced grief, I found comfort in the simplest of things… a teddy bear.
It sounds so simple, doesn’t it?
But that bear became something to hold when the house felt too quiet, when I miss my dad, I even took it to my Grief counselling and when I simply needed comfort.
It made me wonder…
How many older people are sitting alone tonight with nobody to hug?
How many have outlived their husband or wife?
How many have lost their children, their family or their closest friends?
How many simply feel forgotten?
That thought stayed with me.
It wouldn’t leave.
And slowly, Whickham Cottage Sponsor a Bear UK was born.
My dream is beautifully simple.
For £30, you can sponsor a brand-new teddy bear that will be lovingly gifted to an elderly person through care homes, carers and community organisations.
Not because they need another possession…
But because they deserve comfort.
They deserve to know that somewhere, someone they’ve never even met cared enough to send them a hug.
Every bear will carry a message that says what so many people need to hear…
“Someone was thinking of you today.”
If just one bear helps someone smile…
If just one bear brings comfort during a lonely evening…

Then every bit of effort will have been worthwhile.
This isn’t about teddy bears.
It’s about human kindness.
It’s about reminding our older generation that they still matter, they are still valued, and they are never forgotten.
