Running a dog rescue is never predictable. Some months are manageable, and then other months bring unexpected veterinary bills that run into the thousands of pounds almost overnight.

Sadly, we're in one of those months. We have had a dog require emergency surgery and now alot of after care, which has cleaned out any finances we had saved up.

As always, every dog in our care receives whatever treatment they need, when they need it. We never want finances to determine whether a dog gets the care it deserves. However, the reality is that these unexpected costs have had a huge impact on the rescue and have left us struggling to cover our ongoing running expenses.

Alongside emergency veterinary treatment, we still have all the everyday costs that keep the rescue going—food, medications, parasite treatments, cleaning supplies, maintenance, and everything else that goes into caring for our dogs every single day.

As you all know I try to do a little for this amazing charity.
Unfortunately one of their animals has needed emergency surgery and the fees are huge.

To try raise some funds to help, I thought maybe I’d try something new.

👋 NEW FOLLOWERS — HERE’S A LITTLE ABOUT ME!

For those of you who are new around here, I thought it was about time I introduced myself properly.

My name is Rory, and I’m the owner, creator, designer, maker, photographer, packer… basically everything 😂 behind The Viking Manshed.

I’m predominantly a maker of handcrafted chainmail jewellery and accessories, inspired by our history and the incredible craftsmanship of the past.

Before The Viking Manshed, I worked as a body piercer, so jewellery was something I dealt with every single day. In that line of work, I always strived for perfection — or as close to it as humanly possible. That same obsession with getting things just right has followed me into making jewellery.

What started out as a hobby very quickly became a bit of an obsession. 😂

Making things gave me a huge amount of peace at a time in my life when I really needed it. There’s something incredibly satisfying about sitting down with a pile of tiny rings and turning them, one by one, into something completely new.

Fast forward to today and that little hobby has grown into a legitimate small business — which means I now get to spend my days making, creating and designing while trying to make a living doing something I genuinely love.

Being part of Ireland’s reenactment community has given me the opportunity to meet and sell to loads of like-minded people who appreciate history, craftsmanship and all things a little bit different. ⚔️

When I’m not at a reenactment event, you’ll often find me at artisan markets and fayres, bringing the Manshed along and showing off what I’ve been working on.

These days, my main focus is stainless steel jewellery — tough, durable and perfect for everyday wear.

But I also have my own registered hallmark, which means I can legally create and sell pieces made from precious metals too. So yes… there’s plenty of shiny stuff coming out of the Manshed as well. 😏

So whether you’re here for the Viking stuff, the chainmail, the jewellery, the history, the weird creations I occasionally come up with, or you just like watching me disappear down another crafting rabbit hole…

✨ A truly special commission ✨

Sometimes jewellery is about so much more than how it looks.

This customer came to me wanting to give new life to a treasured gift. Their original sentimental heart pendants had sadly reached the end of their life, so instead of trying to repair something that couldn’t be saved, we created something brand new that would last for years to come.

The handmade micro-mail chain and matching bracelet were crafted one ring at a time from stainless steel, then finished with two new stainless steel heart pendants. The larger heart was engraved with “Mum”, while the smaller heart carries the daughter’s name, preserving the sentiment of the original piece in a durable, timeless form.

The result is a beautiful piece of jewellery that keeps the memories alive while creating something strong enough to become a future heirloom.

Every custom commission has a story, and it’s an honour to help turn those stories into something that can be worn every day.
