Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Aberteifi 1976

Ym mis Awst 1976, yng nghanol un o hafau poethaf yr ugeinfed ganrif, croesawodd Aberteifi filoedd o ymwelwyr i'r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol. Roedd y maes yn llawn llwch, lliw a chyffro wrth i Gymru gyfan ymgynnull i ddathlu ei hiaith, ei llenyddiaeth, ei cherddoriaeth a'i diwylliant. Roedd yr ŵyl yn arbennig o arwyddocaol gan ei bod yn nodi 800 mlynedd ers yr eisteddfod gyntaf a gynhaliwyd gan yr Arglwydd Rhys yn Aberteifi yn 1176, gan atgyfnerthu cysylltiad dwfn y dref â hanes diwylliannol Cymru.

Daeth y flwyddyn honno'n un gofiadwy yn hanes y Brifwyl pan enillodd Alan Llwyd y Gadair a'r Goron, camp eithriadol sydd wedi ei sicrhau fel un o feirdd pwysicaf ei genhedlaeth. Roedd Eisteddfod Aberteifi 1976 yn fwy na gŵyl – roedd yn ddatganiad o hyder diwylliannol ac yn ddathliad o Gymru fyw, greadigol ac uchelgeisiol.

National Eisteddfod of Wales, Cardigan 1976

In August 1976, during one of the hottest summers of the twentieth century, Cardigan welcomed thousands of visitors to the National Eisteddfod. The festival field was alive with colour, excitement and celebration as people gathered from across Wales to honour the Welsh language, literature, music and culture. The event carried special significance, marking 800 years since the historic gathering hosted by Lord Rhys at Cardigan Castle in 1176, reaffirming the town’s place at the heart of Welsh cultural history.

The year became one of the most memorable in Eisteddfod history when Alan Llwyd achieved the rare feat of winning both the Chair and the Crown. More than a festival, the 1976 Eisteddfod was a powerful expression of cultural confidence and a celebration of a living, creative and forward-looking Wales.

Mae hanes cudd Trefdraeth yn dod yn fyw…

Ymunwch â ni yng Nghanolfan Bethlehem am noson hynod ddiddorol gyda’r hanesydd lleol Reg Atkinson wrth iddo ddatgelu un o dirweddau canoloesol mwyaf rhyfeddol Sir Benfro – lleiniau bwrdais Trefdraeth.

Yn ymestyn y tu ôl i’r Stryd Fawr ers dros 800 mlynedd, mae’r lleiniau hir a chul hyn wedi siapio bywyd, gwaith a masnach yn y dref ers ei sefydlu yn y 12fed ganrif. Trwy luniau, mapiau a straeon difyr, bydd Reg yn archwilio eu tarddiad, eu harwyddocâd a’r olion canoloesol sy’n dal i fod yn weladwy heddiw.

P’un a ydych yn hoff o hanes lleol, archaeoleg neu Trefdraeth ei hun, mae hon yn noson na ddylid ei cholli.

A hidden medieval landscape lies right beneath our feet...

Join us at Canolfan Bethlehem for a fascinating evening with local historian Reg Atkinson as he uncovers one of Pembrokeshire’s most remarkable surviving medieval landscapes – Newport’s burgage plots.

Stretching behind the town’s main street for more than 800 years, these distinctive long, narrow plots have shaped life, work and trade since Newport was founded in the 12th century. Through historic images, maps and stories, Reg will reveal their origins, significance and the traces of medieval Newport that still survive today.

Whether you're interested in local history, archaeology or Newport itself, this promises to be a captivating journey into the town’s hidden past.
