Quick morning on the water before a bit of packing orders and bait making. 2 bass slow trolling a savage gear eel then moved about a mile and a bit to a reef and had 3 pollack and a reasonable hit of chunky mackerel - both bass and 2 pollack returned to grow some more but a mackerel added to the bbq menu for tonight and as a proper meal tomorrow

It’s a Saturday but I couldn’t neglect work in the bait factory that needed to be done so a bit of effort, launched at 6.45am into a choppy 25km easterly and I headed into the sloppy choppy wind swell for a little cove sheltered by a 200ft sheer cliff. As I trolled into the cove the lure was hit with bass no.1, a bit of casting added 2 more and some pollack. Kayak was loaded back in the van before 8am to get the factory work done hours earlier than anticipated 👍🏼😀😀

Last week was first proper day on the water - all our fish was long eaten so I targeted pollack to top up the fish & chip supper draw of the freezer. Great days sport - 18 pollack and some big! Wrasse - 7 decent pollack kept- everything then returned

On to today - watching all the charts said the window of opportunity was this morning for perfect conditions on an early season bass reef I found thanks to the gannets last year. All rods set up with various lures - 60gr mirage mackerel jigs, ebbrox bomb squads and the savage V2 new mackerel pattern.

Lovely day trolling over the reef, a bit of jigging and a bit of casting
6 bass ! - 💪🏼👍🏼💪🏼👍🏼😊😊. All 47-56cm)
2 pollack that wanted to be bass in water under 10ft deep

And a first for the kayak and only 2nd I’ve ever had - a pretty big greater weever - trolling as the reef dropped away. I was in a wise old local man’s boat nearly 30yrs ago when I had my first one “best eating fish in the sea, he said,,, all they mostly do is sit on the sea bed and eat prawns 🦐 so tonight at the kernow kayak kitchen is a fresh and very local caught sea food medley

Drifting a live mackerel but hadn’t really planned for what might eat it (was set up for a big bass or pollack) had to be tope as this one had already stripped 40-50yds while I wound the other rod in and grabbed the phone. 2 traces bitten through in 2 drifts so stopped the live baiting until I come back set ip properly

Just caught a few joey mackerel over the bass reef but it’s too calm for good bass sport so heading to the distant headland to see what’s in the tidal rip that comes off the point

The calm before the storm! As the showers, wind, chop and whitecaps increased so did the bites. Spent the morning trolling various lures, as the tide dropped the pink bomb squad that was just put on was smashed into a clutch screaming take. 64cm 4.5lb bass / best one from the kayak this year. 2 others that looked small in comparison were returned, along with all the pollack. A few camakazi mackerel hit the lures too.

Getting a few essential bits in stock at the unit bomb squads, renaissance, the deadly mirage mackerel jigs etc
