⚠️ Long post alert! ⚠️
I've not gone away, you know? I've just had an extremely busy couple of weeks (months) with work and commitments, and haven't had much time for social media. But I have been tinkering and bodging away as always in the background! My latest make (almost finished/sixth prototype 🤦♂️) is my pocket-sized toolkit.
At Makers Central the conversation with my amazing maker pals turned several times to every day carry items and Tom Jones blew my mind with his mini Knipex pump pliers. And then his pockets continued to empty - the man is like a tool piñata. And so off I went inspired.
I've long wanted a good EDC kit, but never found one which suited, so I've built my own. And things got pricey quickly. But I am okay with that, because this isn't meant to be a cheap gimmick; it's meant to be high-quality, reliable, used every day for all the little jobs that catch you outside the workshop. All the gear is held in magnetically and holds pretty firmly, but I have added the ability to press everything in a specific place to pop it out with ease. The whole thing is smaller in every dimension than my mobile phone and very similar in weight (the EDC kit is 20g heavier.)
There are some tiny tweaks left to make and one or two tolerances to nudge, but I am pretty happy with how this has turned out. Now I have to carry it with me for a couple of weeks and see a) what doesn't quite work like it should; b) what do I still find myself without.
Equipment:
XS Water Pump Pliers - KNIPEX UK
Atlas Mini knife - Böker
Mini-ratchet - 711L Design
The weak point of the whole project is the Parkside bits, but they are just a placeholder. So if you have read this far (fair play to you) I would like your opinion: What would be the best hex bits to add to my setup, balancing cost and quality?
