Did you know Bovey Larder sells w**e and being the Larder, it is local and environmentally friendly.

Let me introduce you to . They produce boutique English w**e, grown and made in the Teign Valley. Huxbear Vineyard was planted by Ben and Lucy Hulland in 2007 on 14 acres of south and south west facing slopes. A further planting was undertaken in 2013 bringing the total planted area to just over 15 acres.

Respect for, and protection of, the land is central to everything they do at Huxbear. None of their land is ever cultivated and the land between the rows of vines is grassed. This has the double advantage of reducing soil erosion and retaining organic matter. Their prunings are cut and mowed back into the soil, which also helps with organic matter, as well as reducing the requirement for fertilisers.

Huxbear are completely off grid for electricity. Greater than 95% of the electricity used is renewably produced by them from a large solar array. They have been able to achieve this by minimising the amount of energy consumed in the w**ery by working with the ambient temperature and sunlight to perform operations – that would usually require large amounts of energy – at the optimum time of year.

Huxbear don't use any broad spectrum pesticides in the vineyard. As well as specific areas of set aside land, there are wild flowers beneath the vines, both of which help to encourage insects. This improvement in the biodiversity has allowed a natural balance, which in turn keeps thrips and mites at a manageable level. Also, their fields are separated by hedgerow, including blackthorn, gorse and dog rose, which, like the wild flowers under the vines, are all excellent sources of food for bees and other pollinators.

So Huxbear are leading the way in producing ethical w**e and it's available at Bovey Larder.

Bovey Larder is closed on Monday 7th September as we are celebrating Patrick's 21st Birthday.
Open as usual on Tuesday 8th September at 8.30am.

Bovey Larder is open from 10am until 4pm on Saturday 5th of September.

Patrick will be running the shop while Corin and I will be looking after the Festival.

We will not be doing liquid refills on Saturday.

The rumours are true.....

The only Sour Beers in Bovey are back at Bovey Larder.

Once you get into sour beers, you can never go back....

Many thanks to . We can't wait to try the rest of the range, but for now Raspberry Gose (powerful raspberry fruit), Sunset Sorbet ("a totally tropical taste") and Cherry Mango Lassi (you can taste all 3) are pretty amazing starters.
