🌟 Could you spare a couple of hours a week? 🌟

We’re looking for a few friendly volunteers to help us out at Proper Job during our busiest time, between 11am and 2pm, Monday to Saturday.

The role is varied and includes:
🛍️ Serving customers at the till
📞 Answering the phone
📦 A bit of light sorting
😊 Helping customers find what they’re looking for

You don’t need any experience – just a friendly face and a willingness to help.

Even if you can only spare a couple of hours a week, it would make a huge difference to us and help keep the shop running smoothly.

We don’t want cost to be a barrier to volunteering. We’re happy to reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, including travel, mileage, parking, meals while volunteering, childcare or dependent care (where needed), and other agreed expenses directly related to your volunteer role. If you’re unsure whether something can be covered, just ask.

📚 School’s Out for Summer – Free Books for Children! ☀️

We know the summer holidays can be an expensive time for many families, so we’d like to help ease the pressure a little.

From Monday 20th July until 5th September, every child who visits us can choose one FREE pre-loved book to take home.

Reading is a wonderful way to keep children entertained, spark their imagination, and support their learning over the summer holidays. We hope this small gesture helps make the break a little more enjoyable.

If you have any good-quality children’s pre-loved books that your family has outgrown, we’d be incredibly grateful for donations to help keep this initiative going and ensure even more children can enjoy a book this summer.

Work experience complete! It’s been a pleasure having two local lads from Oke College with us this week, and we’ve certainly tried to keep them busy!

They’ve been helping with:
🌱 Deliveries
🪨 Re-gravelling the floor in the reclamation area
🪴 Sorting plant pots
🪵 Cutting and stacking wood for the winter
😊 Serving customers
♻️ Sorting and processing materials
🧹 Cleaning and tidying
🪟 Cleaning windows

…and, of course, there was time for a little bit of football too! ⚽

They’ve worked hard, got stuck in and been a real credit to themselves and Oke College. Thanks for all your help this week! we’ve enjoyed having you, and we wish you both all the very best for the future! 👏

Are you passionate about filmmaking, storytelling or creating content? Looking for something meaningful to add to your portfolio this summer?

Proper Job, an award-winning environmental charity in Chagford, is looking for a volunteer videographer/filmmaker to create a short film (up to 5 minutes) about an exciting new charity initiative.

🎥 What you’ll gain:
✅ A professionally published film for your portfolio
✅ Real-world experience with an established charity
✅ A CV boost and a reference
✅ The chance to develop your filmmaking and storytelling skills while supporting a great environmental cause

📅 Time commitment: Around one week during the summer holidays, with flexible scheduling.

📱 No professional kit? No problem! A modern smartphone and basic editing app are absolutely fine—we’re looking for creativity and enthusiasm more than expensive equipment.

💙 NEW this month – Smart Tech Amnesty with FIXY!

We’re excited to be partnering with FIXY, a community project that helps reduce electronic waste while tackling digital exclusion.

Bring along your unwanted smartphones, tablets, laptops and other smart devices, and we’ll make sure they’re refurbished and given a second life where possible—or responsibly recycled if they can’t be reused.

📍Can’t make it on the day? You can also drop off your unwanted smart tech at the Proper Job Resource Centre, which is open 6 days a week.

Every repair and every donation helps reduce waste, saves valuable resources, and supports our community.

Leftover paint put to good use! 🎨

We love seeing the amazing things people create with items they find at Proper Job.

A few weeks ago, we donated some paint to the FOMs (Friends of Moretonhampstead School). FOMS Just look at the incredible transformation! Jenny has created this beautiful, colourful mural to brighten the children’s day and capture the essence of the surrounding moorland.

The paint from Proper Job is donated as part of the National Community RePaint Scheme. The aim of the scheme is to redistribute surplus, reusable paint so it can be given a new lease of life in community projects just like this. Community RePaint

What a wonderful example of creativity, sustainability, and community collaboration. Well done to everyone involved! 💚
