It is sad news.John Carter was a very good book dealer who enabled other dealers to purchase from him and make a profit. He was a good friend to me and my late wife. But it is a myth to say he was an instrumental part of the team that created Wigtown Book Town. He was not in favour immediately but changed his mind and took great advantage in the creation. He opened two new book businesses on top of The Book Shop. Without his support the status of the book town would not have been achieved. Condolences to his widow Julie and children. Julie was very supportative to me when my wife Marion died in 2009
