You never can tell

With a few other events on today, we weren’t quite sure what to expect at Romsey Farmers’ Market.

As it turns out, we sold almost everything.

A huge thank you to all our wonderful regular customers, everyone who discovered us for the first time, and everyone who came along to support the market.

It’s not the easiest time for independent businesses and market traders, so every purchase, every chat and every recommendation really does make a difference. We’re incredibly grateful.

Thank you for making it such a lovely day. We hope to see you all again at Romsey Farmers’ Market on 6 September.

At Romsey today

We're all set up and ready at the Hampshire Farmers' Market in Romsey today, Sunday 2 August, from 10am to 1pm with bouquets and jam jars full of fresh, seasonal flowers, grown here on our flower farm.

Fresh flowers, wherever you are this weekend

We'll be at the Hampshire Farmers' Market in Romsey tomorrow from 10am to 1pm with buckets full of fresh, seasonal flowers, all grown here on our flower farm.

But if your weekend plans are taking you somewhere else, or you're heading off on holiday, don't worry. You can always collect flowers directly from the flower farm by arrangement, or we can deliver on another day that suits you.

Every bouquet starts with compost

Compost is one of the biggest hidden costs of growing cut flowers. We get through an astonishing amount every year filling trays, pots and planting beds, and good-quality peat-free compost certainly isn't cheap.

That's why days like this are so satisfying.

This is compost we've made ourselves, using our garden and flower farm waste that's been slowly breaking down over many months. It might not look particularly glamorous, but it's packed full of goodness and it's now ready to help grow this year's flowers.

There's something rather special about turning what was once a pile of stems, leaves and trimmings back into the compost that will grow the bouquets we pick today.

It's another way we're reducing waste, recycling nutrients and growing flowers as sustainably as we can.

Romsey, we’ll see you Sunday

There’s lots going on locally this weekend, but we’ll be staying true to our regular spot at the Hampshire Farmers’ Market in Romsey.

We’ll be there with buckets full of beautiful, locally grown summer flowers, including dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers and plenty more from the flower field.

Come and find us in Alma Road car park, next to Waitrose, alongside all the other brilliant Hampshire producers and regular stallholders.

A bunch of summer.

One of the loveliest things about locally-grown British flowers is that they never stand still. As the seasons change, so do the bouquets.

Just a few weeks ago they were light, airy and full of early summer blooms. Now the sunflowers are opening, the dahlias are bursting into colour and the first zinnias are making an appearance, bringing richer colours, bigger blooms and a completely different feel.

It’s one of the joys of buying seasonal flowers. Every bouquet captures a moment in the growing season, so no two months are ever quite the same.

Sunflower season has arrived.

Our first sunflower bunches are now ready to pick.

These aren't the huge, bright yellow supermarket sunflowers. Instead, we've grown a beautiful mix of pollen-free varieties, with soft buttery yellows, rich golds, warm apricots and deep burgundy tones. Every bunch is a little different.

They're all grown here on our flower farm in Tidworth, cut fresh and simply wrapped so you can enjoy them at home or give them as a thoughtful gift.

In this heat, the working day looks a little different on the flower farm.

The alarm goes off at 5.30am so I can pick and condition the flowers for that day’s orders while it’s still cool.

Then it’s out into the flower field for a few hours doing some of the less glamorous jobs (mostly weeding!) before the temperature climbs too high.

The hottest part of the day is reserved for admin, emails and planning, before I head back into the studio in the late afternoon to arrange bouquets.

Deliveries happen in the evening too. It means I know the flowers arrive as fresh as possible, and there’s no risk of a beautiful bouquet sitting on a hot doorstep if no one’s home.

It's all a bit awry, but the flowers are happier for it.

Fresh flower drop at Gastro Nicks

Summer has arrived in the flower field, and today’s buckets are full of colourful seasonal blooms, freshly picked and arranged here in Tidworth.

You can find them at Gastro Nicks in Collingbourne Ducis, where you can pick up a bouquet while stocking up on artisan cheeses, freshly baked bread, fresh fish and plenty of other delicious treats.

We’re delivering fresh flowers every morning, so there’s always a lovely selection waiting for you.

Who says you can’t treat yourself to flowers with the weekly shop?
