Fancy having a hand in creating a piece of Stanwick Lakes' Roman history? Missed your chance to add a tile to our Roman mosaics at our last Heritage Build Weekend? Don’t worry - we’re doing it all over again!

To mark this year’s Festival of Archaeology our next Heritage Build Weekend falls on Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd August. Join Lisa from Earthly Arts Studio anytime between 10am and 3pm on either day to add your contribution to the project’s Roman-inspired mosaic, which will form a lasting part of our current heritage project, From Iron to Empire. All ages are welcome, and there’s no need to book - just drop in and add your own piece to the bigger picture.

And there’s plenty more to explore across the weekend…

🏺 See our replica Roman kiln build continue to take shape.
🐉 Get creative with children’s crafts from Windhover Crafts and make your own raffia dragonfly - charges apply.
🛡️ Meet reenactors from The Longthorpe Legion and Paula from Hermit’s Rest, a historic bone crafter.
🛶 Watch our Bronze Age boat project progress as volunteers work on a wooden jetty inspired by ancient techniques.

It’s all part of From Iron to Empire - exploring the fascinating heritage of the Nene Valley through experimental archaeology, traditional crafts and living history.

FREE to attend, usual parking charges apply.

Can’t wait until then? Stanwick Lakes will also be represented at this weekend, so keep an eye out for us and some of the highlights from the project there, too!

New workshop listed

Come and join us for a sit and sew on June 13th

What to expect at a Sit and Sew

A “Sew and Sit” (or “Sit and Sew”) workshop is a social sewing session. This workshop is where participants bring their own projects to work on in a supportive, communal environment. Unlike a structured “learn-to-sew” class, these sessions are designed for relaxed, self-paced creation with varying levels of guidance.

Here is what generally happens at a Sit and Sew workshop:

• Work on Your Own Projects: Participants bring “UFOs” (Un-Finished Objects) to complete, such as quilting projects, dressmaking, or alterations.
• Support and Guidance: While it is mostly social, these sessions often include an expert or tutor on hand to provide help with fitting, technical difficulties, or to offer advice on challenging projects.
• Socializing and Networking: It serves as a community gathering for sewists to meet like-minded people, chat, de-stress, and share inspiration.
• Access to Equipment: There will be an over locker on hand if you need one for your project but it ideal to bring your own sewing machine if you need one.

Places are limited and available to book through the website- link in bio
