Just got an e-mail from Florent Baumard. He tells me that they started harvesting the Chenin Blanc at the end of August and now there is only the last of the sweet Quarts de Chaume left to pick. It is the earliest he has harvested and his grape pickers will be sent home a month earlier than usual! He says the grape juice is wonderful and is looking forward to finishing the first wines. Should be a good vintage.

Bit of a gap since our last posting - got distracted by things in the real world - but now we are putting together our annual wine list and trying lots of new wines. There are a few bargains out there but they are getting more difficult to find. Most wines are generally well made and inoffensive but we want something a bit more exciting. We've just introduced some wines from Vinas del Vero in Spain's Somontano region, in the foothills of the Pyrenees. And coming up we will have a great offer of the Ventisquero wines from Chile. I've just broken off from writing my tasting notes on the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva. Time to refill the glass...
